It took me a while to really get into it, but I really really enjoyed it, and Wesley is just so incredibly charming and I completely fell in love. Can't wait to grab the sequel from the library!
Very good. Interesting premise. At times, especially earlier on, I was a bit confused about the basic "rules" of the premise, but that might have been part of the story; the protagonist knows all too little about what she does as well.
WARNING : The second book in the series was published, but a third never has been, and the author has written a number of times on Twitter that she doesn't know when she'll ever return to it (various things happened...). So don't get started if you're going to be disappointed, like me, to not have an ending to read.

- The main character has no personality other than the fact she is a pick me.
- Has no character development.
- Typical *I'm different, I just want to fit in* a character line that doesn't go or move anywhere that makes me care.
- The romance actually made me roll my eyes and groan and frequently put the book down because of how unrealistic and ridiculous it is. MC has two encounters with someone and is suddenly okay with them touching her, kissing her?? Hello?? Just feels like a character insert/what the author wants, honestly.
- The plot description isn't as it claims - which at first wasn't bad, I actually liked it - but then it lost its magic somewhere between the awful characters and the gradually repetitive interactions/scenes.
Will not be reading The Unbound; I actually attempted to start it so as not to waste the money I used to buy this book. However, I regret both reading the start as it physically makes me sick and buying it all together. The level of self insert is off the CHARTS.

I loved it! The world created by Victoria Schwab is fantastic and quite realistic. That's why it's even creepier. Crime, excitement, and romance; all in the life of a teenager. A very well-written story.
schwab definitely likes to write betrayals and i definitely love to fall right through them even when i see them coming

This book was so great and refreshing in many ways. The story line of this book was unheard of, so I was immediately drawn towards it. And the writing, god! Everything about The Archived was brilliant. The book sucked me inside it right from the start to the end. I loved every bit!
I love this book so freaking much. This is my second time reading it and it is just as good the second time through. I remember the first time I read it I thought it was slow in the beginning, but rereading it, I see that the beginning just does an AMAZING job of setting up characters, foreshadowing, and easing you into the dark world of the Narrows. Victoria Schwab never fails to create an interesting and unique setting and fill it with top-notch characters, whom I will elaborate on further to show my love for them.
Mackenzie Bishop is a Keeper, meaning it's her job to return Histories (which are copies of dead people) back to the Archive. She was trained by her grandfather from a young age to fight these things. Usually in a YA book this would be like "Wow this character is a total prodigy and the best there's ever been" but this book makes it clear that this is a huge burden on such a young person, and you can see the psychological toll it takes on Mackenzie. She has to lie to everybody around her and that clearly doesn't help foster good relationships. She's tough but definitely makes mistakes. Throughout everything she's struggling to come to terms with the death of her younger brother. One of things that makes this book stand apart from other books in the genre is this underlying theme of grief that really hits right at the heart.
Wesley Ayers is literally the best. He has the best dialogue in the whole book and that's saying something. He's optimistic, charming, and absolutely hilarious. There's an underlying sadness to him though, which is more evident to me having already read the first and second books. He's also so loyal to Mackenzie even when she makes some really bad mistakes. Just the best.
The side character were also super well done. Mackenzie's Mom is super peppy and hopeful, trying to stay strong for their family. Roland is a great mentor to Mackenzie, probably more so than her grandfather. All the residents of the Coronado are quirky and really add a ton of atmosphere to the place.
So yes I love everything about this story, except the fact that the series has been on stand-by for a few years now, so there's no third book. I need more of Wesley Ayers. Please and thank you, Ms. Schwab.
