edit 5/26/19 I've settled on a four star rating because, while I preferred other books in the series, the series still feels worth the read to me and I enjoyed it so much overall. Happy reading! :)

Post Reading This is a hard one to rate because I loved everything except for the last three chapters. The last three chapters are important.

Prereading When you want a book so badly you keep coming back to check the release date as if it will somehow change if you keep looking at it. Hint: it doesn't.

Okay, at this point I think it is safe to say that I loved this series. I loved the characters, the problems they faced the solutions they worked through, i loved the romance and the friendships. I just loved it.

I think the only thing that was a little off putting was the three or so times stuff that happened in the last books were explained. I don't think it happened during the second book and I don't think it was needed for this one. I would have preferred it being brought up in normal conversation and then perhaps talked about a little so as readers we could naturally remember without just being told about it. More than one word less than a paragraph type of thing. or just mentioned casually more than once so that if we didn't remember the first or second time we figured it out by the third. I dunno. It wasn't too bad but I did notice it.

Everything else about the book was great. (a little cheesy)

I didn't quite love this one as much as the first 2, but I still really enjoyed this book! And overall I really loved this series! I really grew to love all the characters! I don't usually pick up sci-fi books that often, but I'm really glad I picked this series up!

I think this one made the mistake of going back to being very plot heavy like the first one. The first felt chaotic and the second struck the balance between plot/action and character/relationship development perfectly in my opinion. But then this one returned to the pattern of chaos and continuous problems that needed addressing, which on one hand makes more sense for the end of a trilogy that involves an interplanetary war but it also meant there was less time to explore the character connections that are what make this series so special, especially as these characters experienced some huge life altering experiences in this book, things that also raise interesting philosophical questions. I wish those concepts and relationships had just a little bit more time to breath like in the second book although they were still there. I also felt the epilogue was too cursory and wanted more time to enjoy that space with the characters after all the turmoil i endured to get there.

Whew, that was a whirlwind of three books in as many days. Loved the ending; it was satisfying and fun.

Reading them so close together did make a few minor flaws in this book a bit more apparent, but they weren't enough to detract from the book overall. I would have almost preferred two longer books instead of a trilogy so we could cut a bit of the fat (there were so many instances of Abel and Noemi preparing to sacrifice themselves for each other that it could have been a dangerous drinking game).

There was a moment in the middle that was the only part that didn't jibe for me--it was essential to get the characters in the places they needed to be for the remaining action to unfold, but out of everything it FELT like author maneuvering compared to being a logical thing the characters would have done (or perhaps I am just feeling especially aware of this right now so soon after the ending of GAME OF THRONES. YMMV. #ImNotBitter).

But overall Gray does relationships so right. The characters get to know one another and fall for their personalities, not their bodies. There's enough squee stuff but it's not all "his hot eyes raked over my trembling body" that sounds great but loses meaning after a while. These characters had some moral and philosophical differences that, whaddya know, they actually discussed and came to thoughtful compromises and solutions. Refreshing!

Gray also just makes up some damn fun stories. First we had the multiverse in A Thousand Pieces of You, now we've got space travel and new planets and the morals of AI (parts of this book reminded me of playing that newer video game DETROIT: BECOMING HUMAN--as well as a myriad of other robot stories, of course).

I can't wait to see what she'll write about next!

This book is how a series should end. The action picks up immediately where book two ended and never stops. Fast-paced, thrilling, and intriguing, Abel and Noemi take fans for a wild ride across the universe. With everyone out to get them, these two never give up on their beliefs and not only fight for their friends but for their enemies as well. After finishing this series, I cannot wait to pick up another one of Ms. Gray’s books
