I think half the issue is I just finished Red Rising audiobook by Tim Gerald Reynolds so starting a similar book with the same narrator is messing with my head. Also book is moving a bit slow for me and I need something a bit more engaging while I’m in Utah. Definitely will try again in the future.

This was a great read! Shout out to my bestie who told me to read this with her 😂. I absolutely LOVED the dialogue in this book! Malcolm and Raithe's interactions were SO GREAT. Suri and Minna must be protected at all costs. And I can't forget about our QUEEN PERSEPHONE!! YOU GO QUEEN!! AND THAT ENDING 🫠 I'm speechless and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It is probably not the best place to enter into a monumentally sprawling story, so I've decided to go back to the origin story. Nevertheless I was drawn in by a handful of characters and a description of a fictional world that I cannot due justice here. Pull back the vines, pass through the cave and wander around in another land for a bit. That's what I wanted. That's what I got. So- I'm happy.
4.5 stars! I have been in a reading slump for quite a while and this book may as well start to change that! I really liked the well rounded characters and the story kept me interested. Will absolutely read more of this series!
This book is my introduction to Sullivan's world of Elan, and it is a good one! Age of Myth is set 3000 years prior to the other books set in Elan (the two Riyira series) and Sullivan explains that the history we're told about in the Riyira books isn't totally accurate--history, after all, "is written by the victors". This sets up an interesting frame for the story of our human and elfin (Fhrey) heroes. When Raithe kills one of the Fhrey, who humans think of as immortal gods, it throws their land into chaos. This is the inciting incident for the whole book.
The plot felt familiar to me and the characters fall into archetypes pretty neatly. That said, I enjoyed the book a lot and totally got lost in the story. As long as it's fun who cares, in my opinion--it's nigh on impossible to be wholly original. The biggest recommendation I can give is that I downloaded the first volume of the Riyira Revelations before I even finished Age of Myth!
Note: I listened to this on Audible and it was really excellent in terms of narration.
