Sullivan’s done it again. This is so good, epic fantasy as I always dream it can be. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!

I enjoyed the book, though some of the idiosyncracies in technology and just how guileless some of the characters were was a bit jarring at times. I'll probably check out the rest of the series.

I liked it, but just sorta. I left off for a spell to read his other books in order. Came back to it and decided it’s just “mehhh” for me. I’m not always fond of the last 3% of a book being key to the critical story and a build up for a sequel. Not my favorite work of his...

Age of Myth begins with a human killing a god, an act believed to be impossible, and takes place in a world of elves, humans, and dwarves.
Michael J Sullivan is a master storyteller, the first time I read Age of Myth I was completely caught off guard by some of the plot points (in the best way possible) and those surprises were really the highlight of the novel for me. So naturally, on reread I knew they were coming and didn't enjoy this novel quite as much. Don't let that mislead you though, because I do still really love this series. Michael's characters really pop off the page, and learning about the various Fhrey tribes was a lot of fun. This was such a great set up for the rest of the series.
Age of Myth was the first of Michael's novels that I read and prior to my reread I read all his Riyiria novels, and I do have to say Age of Myth is a bit more fun if you've read the Riyiria books because of the Easter eggs (and now I have some theories I wouldn't otherwise have had without reading Riyiria). Reading Age of Myth first, however, won't affect your enjoyment in any way, as it does stand well on its own.

When I say I drank this book like it's a golden cup of water and I, a parched traveller, just belive me. I needed this book. I had to meet MJS, his incredible writing, and his characters that were made of flesh and blood. I could read the events bleed through the book, each decision, each idea come to life so realistically, I don't think I can point out a single thing that I was disappointed in this entire novel. It is, in my opinion, a perfect book, the kind that I reserve a place for only a few among countless that I love. I can't predict how the rest of the series is going to pan out, I'm not sure if the same format can be projected far into 5 other books but I cannot image not enjoying them with a premise like this. Too good. Although it took me more than a single day to devour the book, that in no way can be attributed to its lack of finely tuned pace, as that would be a complete lie. It took time, and I enjoyed every second. Age of Myth showed me once again why I love fantasy so much.

I loved this book! The way that the author writes his characters is very easy to read and makes the book really enjoyable. Overall I really thought that the world building was great, and I found the glossary at the end of it was super helpful and cool to see someone do to make it easier to understand the world a bit more. The only reason it took me so long to read was that I was stuck in a reading slump for over a week. Can’t wait to continue the series in the future!
