Rereading books is a strange thing. The last time I read this book I was probably about 12 years old and 12 years later, it is such a different experience. I did think it was a very good YA book, but I found myself longing for the way I remember this series drawing me in as a kid. I’d be curious to continue to read this series and Ally Carter’s other series, Heist Society, that I loved at 12 and see how they hold up in memory.

As someone who just read haunting adeline and hunting adeline back to back yesterday thes was a REAL breath of fresh air. The way that Cammie's intellect is simultaneously helping her and sabotaging her decisions not only academically but also romantically is a very interesting dynamic that is present in this book. This book also features VERY DIVERSE CHARACTERS (unlike haunting adeline) I can actually remember the characters after reading the book this time! That is much appreciated for a book that i thought I would hate just because if the cover, is truly is correct that you do not judge a book by its cover, I loved this book even if I thought the cover (and also the title) is kinda cringe worthy. WHICH IS THE TOTAL OPPOSITE OF IT ENDS WITH US [by coleaeaen huvir] I once judged the book by its beautiful imagery of flowers and the title being interesting through it ends with us but it definitely is something that belongs in the trash can.

I really enjoyed all the spy aspects of this, including the mixing of teen girl stuff with apy stuff. It's perfect spy escapism.
I feel as though there could have been a lot more bonding between Josh and Cammie though. We don't really get to know them as a couple, or Josh much as a person. They don't necessarily seem to have a ton of chemistry necessarily.

This book was pretty good! The title is pretty long, so I think I will call it...Book 1, since it's the first book of the Gallagher Girls Series. Book 1 follows the main character named Cammie Morgan. The story is a first person point of view, with Cammie narrating. The main thing about the book is that she goes to a girl's school for spies. No one really knows it's a spy school though, so everyone thinks it's just a stuck-up girls private school.
Anyway, Cammie can do all this super spy kind of stuff, but then she meets a boy! OMG crazy! They go on dates, talk, yadda, yadda, yadda. Then she has to do a test-thing 9I think) and then the boy (honestly, can't remember his name...consults book...) whose name is Josh wrecks it, and then her mom, who guess what, is the principal of said spy school, finds out and all this crazy stuff.
I decided to give this book three stars, originally I was going to give it four stars, but then I realized, I couldn't really remember much of what happened. I read this in December of 2024 and I know I don't have that much brain-rot to forget what happened in a whole book. The characters weren't very memorable, and the storyline was ok. I kind of liked it, it was still a fun story to read, but not "I'm going to reread and remember this book forever! I will buy it and love it on my bookshelf! The title is (in my opinion) to long to remember and type efficiently. I didn't even want to read the rest of the series. There are six books in total, according to the Storygraph, not counting short half-sequels.
You can tell I'm definitely not as passionate for this book as I was for my review of The Hidden Oracle, which I thoroughly enjoyed, see review here. Would I recommend it? Maybe. If you like spy-romances, you might like it. It's not a terrible book, it just didn't grab me in a way that would make me want to read the rest of the series or the book again.
