I love when authors use commonplace tropes and spin it into a new entity. Novak does somewhat so with the celebrity to non-celebrity theme, but her execution is less than spectacular. The manner in which Felicity's character at the beginning of the book especially was stuck-up, unrealistic to the legitimacy of high school penny pinchers are, and is honestly a poor ode to how socioeconomic statuses affect students paying their ways through schooling. Yes, characters can be obnoxious at the start and learn their way to become better people, but Novak's writing style doesn't complete the essence of it.

Nevertheless, this is a decent read. Grammar is relatively alright, and the plot in theory is amazing.

P.S. the reveal was too soon

This book was honestly good. Usually I fall for a certain romance type that isn’t how this book is written, but I really enjoyed it. It was a page turner and I could not put it down. Honestly made me wish I had this type of relationship

I’ve read The Heartbreakers a long time ago – almost 2 years ago! -, but I was very excited to revisit the band, and this book didn’t disappoint 🙂 .

It didn’t take me any time at all to get into the world of the band, and I just love how the guys all fit together. This is definitely my favorite teen band in books, and the guys just truly feel like family and friends. It’s a great written dynamic.

I liked the two main characters, but I did have some issues with Felicity, especially because she so easily doubted everything and everyone and overreacted. But she went through a lot of character growth, so that was a plus. Alec was a sweetheart, and I loved his relationship with all his friends, especially Stella. I also loved Felicity’s BFFs, Boomer and Asha, and I loved their mini story.

I wasn’t 100% sold on the romance though, and I wish the action of the book has taken more time, because I needed to feel that connection between Felicity and Alec, and it wasn’t totally there. Maybe my problem was perhaps the pacing, but I still found their relationship cute, I just felt it needed a little more development.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one, and I especially liked the time with the band and the road trip element. I wish the book had focused a little more on the band at times, I felt like I needed to see more of them, and more of Alec and Fel together.

I do recommend this series, and I hope the books about the remaining boys will come out faster than this one did, because I’m so curious for their stories. I love the band and their friendship, so I want more.

Let me start off by saying: I love books that occur in the same world but don't really count as sequels. To clarify, I have not read "The Heartbreakers" which is technically first in the series. Even though I haven't read the first book I did not feel as though I was jumping in to a story already in progress. Did the main characters from the first book show up in "Paper Hearts"? Yes. Would I have understood their dynamic better if I had read it? Maybe. Did I feel like I was missing anything? No. The shift in focus was enough to separate the two stories without any misunderstanding.

Changing tone a bit to be a bit more critical, I felt like the characters in this book were not teenagers. Or, at least, no teenagers I've ever known. Spontaneous road trips with friends that your parents don't know? Not going to happen. Felicity can get away with it sure, but Asha and Boomer? Somehow I don't think that would have gone as smoothly. These kids aren't even in their senior year, emphasis on the word "kids."

At the end of the day, I did enjoy this book even if the story was far fetched. Meeting a teen celebrity is enough of a stretch but the ensuing shenanigans is almost more unbelievable. That being said, it is every fans dream and for dream fulfillment for the reader? A+.

this book, this book so many feelings. I adored the first book in this series and this one was no exception. Although felicity annoyed me to no end at some points I couldn't help but love the story and the other characters. The Heartbreakers are my favorite people, I swear. Like there were so many moments where I wished i could be best friends with them too. BTW JJ is def my fav but I adored Alec too. I loved the connection to the first book, I loved that was adorable. Besides the Heartbreakers, Asha and Boomer were ok and I def saw their relationship coming from a mile away. Boomer was a fun comic relief and I liked his friendship with Felicity. As a whole at times this book was so predictable and the MC annoyed me but because of the other characters I had to give this book 5 stars like I adore the Heartbreakers so much. Loved, loved, loved this book

This book is just as good the fifth or sixth time (I have officially lost count) as it was the first.
Warning to people who see this review: I am a huge sucker for anything cliché and romantic. Do with that what you will.

This book is in no way equal to the first Heartbreakers book. The story, although generally interesting, feels forced in certain moments, Felicity and Alec have way less chemistry than Stella and Oliver and generally it's to cliche for me.
But I still really enjoyed the scenes of all the Heartbreakers together. Ali Novak knows how to write their friendship authentic, it's what made the first book so great, and the chemistry between the boys is just right.
Asha is also a well-written character and the friend group of Felicity, Asha and Boomer also is realistic and relatable.
I would have never imagined to like Violet James but her last appearance had me thinking "she's such a cutie".
I loved the notes Alec wrote in Felicity's book and the many parallels that this book included, between Felicity/Alec and many other people/couples.
Still, I feel like Alec and Felicity lacked chemistry and I'm kinda sad about that bc they are both great characters that I learned to love over these two books (Alec during the last, Felicity in this one).
