REREAD 2021

I still really, really enjoy Nell as a character, and this book is very interesting to me on many levels. I love nature, and the general plot of this book being what it is, it really speaks to me.
And, other than this and what I said in my original review, I don't have much more to say about the book.
Well written and with good characters, even if I still have trouble distinguishing between the witch and the human of U18 - I don't even remember their names at the moment, but that's because of heat-fatigue.

I'm keeping the original rating.
-------------------------------
Not sure if my problem with writing a review for this book is because my brain is all foggy, or because the book didn't stick to me.
I know that last part is wrong, for I found this book really interesting, even if all the plots within a plot thing made my head spin, and I'm still having trouble remembering who all the different characters are, especially when introducing so many other characters as this book did.

Other than that, I can't think of anything else I didn't like with the book.
The story was, as said, interesting, and I like Nell a lot. Her growing into her powers is also really, really interesting, and I'm looking forward to getting around to the next book.

I switched between the audiobook and ebook. I was worried about the audiobook since the same person narrates another series by this author (I love the Jane Yellowrock series) but I had no issues and the narrator was just as awesome as she is for the other series. I will admit that I no longer hate Ricky Bo and wish him dead, dead, dead but I question where everything will go from here. I admitted in my review for book 1 that I hadn't planned on reading this series but do to some crossover I went ahead and read it. I enjoyed this installment more than the 1st book since I became invested in the stories and the characters and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

It didn't have as much of the family dynamic that I loved in the first book and had more of a police procedural feel than I'm generally interested in, but I love love love Nell, so I'm ok with all of that and now anxiously awaiting the next in the series!

This is the second book in a great spinoff series that really stands on its own. The world build and magic system, while the same as jane yellowrock series has its own depth.
I like the world and character build going on and that at this point it does feel less of spinoff series and more of its own thing. While it has some similar characters from the Jane Yellowrock series they are supporting cast, or cameo appearances here.

Faith Hunter, has another hit series on her hands. She is proving herself to be a must read author with every release. Loved this book and seeing Nell develop herself and all her relationships. It was fun and engrossing read.
Highly recommend, and I cannot wait for the next one...December is too far away.

This book seemed to have lots of world building via info dump and less character driven content than the first. I'm always happy in Jane Yellowrock's world, so this book drained all of my productivity for the day, and I have no regrets.

This is still good but dragged on a little.

I'm not into protracted crime plot, I realize.

Nell's developing relationship with Occam and her family as well as her homelife and connection to Soulwood were my favorite parts.
