Winter stories perfect for this time of the year. Some fantasy romance, some uf, a good mix of things, and it made me interested in reading more

Of Fate and Fire by Amanda Bouchet
Hero dropped into a strange new modern world. I did feel sorry for the guy, I haven't read the series he is in but aww, poo guy even if he did a stupid thing. But he comes here instead to save the day. And consequences are set for her scifi series, yes i do want to try that one now

The King of Hel by Grace Draven
When is Draven not good?! Yes, a sad story in a way. Two best friends, one is married off to a king in a distant country. But before that her best friends fall for the same king. I liked the way it happened. She respects her friend, nothing happen, but there will still be a happy ending

Familiar Winter Magic by Jeffe Kennedy
This ends with a happy for now but still evil cliffie. Because even though people are safe now, in this cruel world, what about in a week? But answers will be had in the following book and I need to know cos these two characters, aww my heart

A Wynter Fyre by Darynda Jones
Ok, so it did have a nice twist at the end. But the rape beginning, where the hero shows up and kind of just continues. And consent can't be given cos magic. It felt badly handled. So flippantly. Not my story. Had the beginning not been there it had been good but now the story was just filled with rapists

Fire of the Frost

Source: B & N
Dates Read: 1/2/24 - 1/6/24
Average Stars: DNF - No Rating

A Wynter Fyre - Darynda Jones - 4 Stars - Wynter, Gareth - Dare I say there is a Darynda Jones book I don’t like? The back story is boring me and the lack of consent in the first smex scenes makes me want to turn away. It is missing the humor I usually get from Ms. Jones’ wor. All of this together makes me uninterested and therefore I am DNFing.

**** I picked this book for Darynda Jones but considering my disappointment with the story I’m not going to stick around for more, shame on me. I may revisit one day but who knows when.

Of Fate and Fire - Kingmaker Chronicles, Book 3.5 - Amanda Bouchet - Stars - Piers, Sophie -

The King of Hel - Grace Draven - Stars - Castil, Doranis -
Jeffe Kennedy - Stars - Hans, Illiana

- Review of A Wynter Fyre by Darynda Jones -

A Wynter Fyre was such a steamy paranormal romance novella. I was hooked to the story from the start and the characters were amazing. Darynda Jones writes the best characters, and she was able to make me care for them in such a short amount of time. The steaminess was incredible and I wanted more. The two main characters Wynter and Gareth had so much chemistry, and their banter was great. I also enjoyed the twist. I wish this novella was part of a whole series, because I couldn't get enough. I really hope Darynda will decide to write more stories about this world and characters because there is just so much potential.

Overall I enjoyed this anthology. I read it for the Grace Draven story which was awesome.

A Wynter Fyre by Darynda Jones - 1 star
I had some issues with this story. The world building is a bit of jumbled mess. There is a nasty assault that is brushed off and not dealt with.
Spoiler There are very little consequences to the perpetrators which also made me frustrated.
At least twice I had to go wait what and backtrack because I wasn't sure how the characters got there. Anyway this story did not live up to its potential.

Of Fate and Fire by Amanda Bouchet - 4 stars
This is a side story from Bouchet's Kingmaker Chronicles, which has been on my TBR pile for awhile. This story was good and it made me curious about actually reading the series, so that is a plus. I liked the characters and the world building made sense.

The King of Hel by Grace Draven - 5 stars
My favorite story in the whole book. It's a lovely build of a romance with fantastic world building and believable characters. I would definitely read more about this world and the characters.

Familiar Winter Magic by Jeffe Kennedy - 3 stars
This was the other story I was not satisfied with. I liked Han and Iliana. The world building is good, it is just very bleak. I had lots and lots issues with what is going on with the Familiars in this world. The ending didn't really work for me because it was a cliff hanger and nothing really got resolved.

So read Of Fate and Fire and The King of Hel. Skip A Wynter Fyre. And be prepared for frustration with Familiar Winter magic.
