Delightful satire with excellent and immersive world building. Not enough story.

"What if menstruation could turn women into violent jungle cats?" Mildly amusing feminist dark comedy that gave me minor Heathers vibes. Although, there's a funny irony of changing times where a satire of menstrual stigma could turn into rebelling against virus instigated protection measures. My only problem is the balance of critique to hyperbole wherein the author may have created a world where the criticized topics are justified and we're going to be encouraged to root for murderers because empowerment.

Issue #4 and Cain's remarks on Twitter rather ruined this book for me. Also the lack of plot movement, which is not typical of her work. :(

This was delightful. Made me add the series to my pull list.

I love the premise of the comic, but the execution fell a little flat for me. The actual story bits were entertaining, and I did enjoy the propaganda between issues, but for issue 4 to be a complete in-universe publication was too much, too soon. I also had a pretty hard time suspending disbelief because the premise was SO completely absurd and instead of just explaining it away via alternate reality or distant future or even wizard magic or whatever, there's a vague attempt at science that only opens a can of plausibility worms. I hope the series finds its stride in the next volume, and I really hope transgender and nonbinary people are addressed, because I would be all over a story about this society from that point of view.

I received a free digital copy for review from Image Comics and Edelweiss.

Holy shit.

This comic is hilarious and amazing. If you are a girl or a cat you should 100% read it immediately.

Cats? Yes! Girls who fight back? Yes! Parody ads? Yes! Wait -- no, too much, where'd the story go?

That's how I felt working my way through this well-illustrated series. I realize there are more volumes after this, which may continue the story, but Vol. 1 ends with a fake magazine, Cat Fight. It's cleverly done, but an unsatisfying way to end the volume.

Lots of details went into the graphic design within the series, like the flyers, posters, labels, and ads, so it's fun to look at, but the story gets lost in it all. Hoping the next volumes have more substance.

Read these as single issues as they came out; wanted to include it since it's a book club book. There's so much going on here and I can't wait to see where it goes next.
