Felt like it was written for preteens, off brand version of Fourth Wing/Divergent
Ugh. Typical YA romance garbage. Can't finish the series, too predictable.
Goodness this was such a fun read. It resembled the Hunger Games in a lot of ways, but still felt unique and kept my interest. I devoured this book. I found it easy to read and exciting. The pace is quick and immediately drew me in. Loved the ride

I actually enjoyed this book but I took off a star for cliffhanger endings! I like to feel satisfied at the end of the book and because it was such a cliffhanger I didn't get that.
If the other books in the series weren't already out and on kindle unlimited there would be little chance I would have continued.
But overall I liked the premise, it had a Red Queen vibe mashed with The Hunger Games.

This book started off so good! I loved the concept, main character (Roselle) and the premise behind the book. The first sentence really grabs you - “It’s agony and relief to watch my life end.” ... like, wow!
But towards the middle it gets slow, and the romance that develops I feel like just happened almost by accident. After the romance starts, you find out he’s loved her for forever... but he can’t really - he’s only known her on screen. But I felt like there was no build up to them being together whatsoever.
And I feel like roselle gets week, and starts relying on others a lot, which contradicts the Roselle at the start of the book.
I feel like Bartol has much to offer, I just felt this book was a little lacking, almost as if it were rushed. Overall, I did like the book and will likely finish out the series because it is a good story.

I am so glad to have finally started this series. It’s even better than I could have imagined! The sci fi fantasy world is filled with action, intrigue, cunning, and romance.
Roselle is a great character who is inspiring and easy to live up to. She’s had a lot given to her in life, but she still faced challenges and serious danger. After being taken from her world for being Secondborn, Roselle quickly learns that not everything is as she believed, and she has the power to stand up and make a difference. The characters she meets along the way are both friends and some truly horrific enemies.
There are tons of characters that make Roselle’s life interesting. Her allies and potential romances are all unique and complex, and it’s hard to tell who will stay on her side. Her enemies are all completely twisted and present terrifying challenges for her to overcome.
The world building is complex and unique, and unlike many sci fi books that I’ve seen before. I am fully engaged and ready to see where this new adventure goes. A must read for fans of sci fi, thrillers, and romance!

I really enjoyed this book, although at times I did have trouble keeping up with the new terminology and all of the characters. It might require a second read to make sure I can keep track of everyone and everything, but now I'm invested and want to find out how it ends.
Honestly, this book caused me to want to make sure I checked out the other books Amy wrote. She does a phenomenal job with world-building. This was an interesting take on dystopian storytelling. It was like Hunger Games meets Maze Runner with a dash of Snow White.
OMG! This book was so good!! I seriously could not put it down! Roselle is a strong, independent, and super smart girl. She is a secondborn, which means she holds no power and has to be a soldier for all of the firstborns...like her brother. Her mother hated her because she was a secondborn, her brother is weird and weakminded, and her father was basically a no-show in her life until the end of the book (and he barely acknowledges her!!!). DASLFMDLSAMFAL! Her family was just annoying to me but it made me love her character even more because you get to see what she had to deal and live with all of her life. AND YET her family, mostly her mom, has been trying to kill her since the beginning of the book but boy does she have a few tricks up her sleeves because there's a huge following that want her alive. I seriously cannot wait to read the next book, traitor born.
