I honestly enjoyed reading this. The world is cool to envision. My only big comment (and is sort of a spoiler) is that is doesn't stand on its own. I got to the end and realized I need book 2. I'm not a huge fan of that. I would rather have one large volume or a smaller plotline that gets wrapped up completely leaving a larger one to continue. This felt like it was just completely cut in half.

Too close to the Hunger Games to really feel fresh, and the worldbuilding could have used a lot more attention.

Dnf at chapter 14. This is the 2nd time I have tried this author and both never worked for me. Narrator was good.
3.5 stars. There were some things I absolutely loved about to this book...the storyline was good but other parts felt rushed or not explained well enough.
I am so tired of kindle reads that end with no real ending. There's setting up for your sequel and then there's neglecting to provide any kind of conclusion to the novel you've released.

Oh look, another book that I finished forever ago and failed to write a prompt review for...
Actual rating of 4.5 stars! We all know that Bartol does a really great job of writing imaginative worlds with fully-realized characters and romances that have your heart pitter-pattering. I enjoyed this one quite a bit, and liked her take on a dystopian world (if I'm remembering correctly, haha). She never disappoints me, and I distinctly remember thinking that I wanted the next installment immediately.

A good narration on the audible book which helped the story flow. I think that Bartol is onto a great dystopian concept but the characters lack depth. I think that more time could have been taken to get to know characters and their relationships to give the book more substance. Characters seem to give Roselle help who barely know her and then disappear! They could be developed much more.
But...don't let this out you off, the book sets up the next in the series and I'll definitely be buying the next book when it comes out. And fingers crossed for Hawthorne!!

hmmmmm
ok so like. not sure if it's just me but like...all ya dystopias i've read feel....The Same? like i was reading this and i was like. okay so this part is like the hunger games, this part is like divergent... i don't know!!!!
honestly i wanted less romance and more found family. hit me with those platonic relationships!!! mess me up with that familial love!!!!!! i don't know if roselle's family relationships get explored in the rest of the series but i feel like that'd be interesting. and like...emmy was someone i was really interested in and then after her introduction she was only mentioned once in passing. cool....
i don't know it was more entertaining than some of the dystopians i've read and the pacing was pretty good, but i don't think it was really anything new to me and like it serious lacked in representation so i'm very whatever about it and not sure if i'm finishing the series but who knows
