Another solid book in the Red Rising series, technically the end of a trilogy but there are quite a few more books. This didn't quite have the same punch for me as Golden Sun but it has so many characters I remember and enjoy, a few I didn't even recall from previous books, and some new additions.

It was a fun read with some very cinematic battle sequences and some interspersed quiet character scenes which I always like the most. Some twists I saw coming but some I didn't, and even the stuff I guessed early was still satisfying to read.

There were plenty of rousing speeches, but I didn't write down any specific quotes from the book like I did with the first two. I'm also not sure I particularly liked the wrap up but since there are more books, that means it's not really the end! I think there is still plenty more to do in this world, and I'm curious to see where it all goes.

Best of the trilogy. I was hooked and thoroughly invested. still, it wasn’t without flaws. sometimes darrow’s plans work a littttttlllleeee too well even though i recognize that he does take a lot of serious losses. darrow is really Him and sometimes that’s a bad thing but for the most part it had me hyped.

So at 90% through this book I have a suspicion! I've been really mad since
SpoilerSevro died
. REALLY mad. But now I'm thinking ... Two things have not been sufficiently explained. First
Spoilerwhat project Mickey (famous carver that he is) and the dr have been working on
and
Spoilerwhat was on the halo Darrow gave Cassius
. So I'm thinking that just MAYBE
Spoiler Sevro is alive and that was a fake! And Cassius is in on it. Please?!!
.

Hard to breathe that last 75 pages or so, but +exhale.+ It's over. Seriously, this series should come with regular footnotes reading "Pour yourself a drink before continuing." Glad to hear that a spinoff series is in the works, but I'm not sure I'm emotionally equipped for more for a while! ;) Serious book hangover here.

Overall, I loved this series. Loved this book (in the end). I was utterly immersed, completely emotionally invested, and don't apologize even a little for the cursing or tears along the way. So five enthusiastic stars for that.

I'd recommend reading it before the movies start coming out. No matter how good they are, they won't live up to the books!
