My first and favorite Dessen book. After that, everything becomes kinda formularic, not gonna lie. I've developed a theory that whichever Dessen book you read first will no doubt triumphs all the other ones. Because after the first one, they all started to become pretty predictable...I've only made it as far to This Lullaby and Just Listen and I can't bear to read any more of her books. AHh, enough of the negativity, though.
I recently reread this book to see if I was too hasty in my five stars rating two years ago. Plus, I'm going through a phase where I can't decide what to read next so might as well go through my reread pile. The Truth About Forever is pretty straightforward. It's simple yet touchingly sweet. You can sorta see everything coming together--there aren't any major plot twists or surprises. And this might sounds like a bad thing but it makes the story more believable and realistic somehow. I love my fantasy and paranormal books but some times I need a break in between and this book falls right into that category.
If you're looking for something fun to pass the time then you should definitely check out this out. The plot is nothing new. Girl/boy suffers from family misfortunes but Dessen managed to weave this story and its characters into something unique. I lovessss Wes (even his name is cool ok). He's one of those characters that I can truly see to exist in real life. Delia and Kristy are both delightful as well.

"But if everything was always smooth and perfect, you'd get too used to it, you know? You have to have a little bit of disorganization now and then. Otherwise, you'll never really enjoy it when things go right."

There's just something about this book that really got me hooked in. I personally think Just Lullaby is still my favorite of all Sarah Dessen's works (maybe because it was the first book of her that I've read), but The Truth About Forever comes close, like, really close. Macy's world seems like a fun place to be.

I like almost everyone in this story; everyone in Wish catering (including the locked-mouth Monica) and Caroline (Macy's sister). I like the setting of the story; about how's Macy dealing with her father's death, the way her Mother acting up by busying herself so she'll escape from the grief of losing her husband, and every parts that includes Wish catering on a party.

Sarah Dessen also takes time to build Macy & Wes' relationship, and it only gets much better everytime with the 'Truth' game going on. It's sweet, and cute, and... good. Wes is clearly a boy that you could easily fall for, especially for his wonderful art skill.

Eventhough I think this book will be much better if the author cut some unnecessary parts out of the story (like, maybe, the part where Macy saw Wes & her girlfriend in Waffle House and the part where Jason tried to 'talk it out' with Macy in her mom's party), it's still very good. Love it.

"Not everyone needs a social life like what you had, Caroline. Macy's focused on school, and her grades are excellent. Just because she's not out drinking beer at two in the morning doesn't mean she isn't living a full life."
"I'm not saying her life isn't full. I just think she's awfully young to be so serious about everything."

This book is a warm fuzzy, but I am not. Three stars = solely a matter of personal taste.

Though, I can see why Sarah Dessen's books are so popular among bookish & introverted sorts of girls coming into their own. Keeping the Moon was one of my favorite books as a young teenager. In this book as in that one, Dessen earns the final "mature young woman" stage of her main character's growth, a genuine coming of age with all its consequent reckonings having taken place. There's a lot of value in telling a real teenage story that could have been about you or me.

I had a hard time getting in to it

Loved the main character Macy and the supporting cast of characters. I liked how Macy learns to take control of her life and grows. Recommended for teens as well as for moms of teens and women who still remember being a teen :) Sarah Dessen is my new favorite young adult author and I haven't been a young adult for years :)
emotional hopeful lighthearted fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Although I feel that the romance did not happen soon enough simply because I just wanted to see a lot more of Wes and Macy, I really enjoyed this mostly because of our side characters and the personality itself of the main characters. I just want more of Wes and Macy as a couple , it would have made this a much faster read

Somehow this was even better than when reading it as a teenager. I may have to bump it up to an annual re-read.

Ahh I love this book! It is such a sweet love story but it didn't have just romance, there was so many other aspects of this book that I fell in love with! I do wish that Wes and Macy would have started a romance/relationship a lot sooner but that may be what I love most about this book. They didn't have to have sex to have feelings for eachother like most books about young love, it started off slow and bumpy. Another amazing book by Sarah Dessen!

This book was really good and I felt like the characters developed really well through the whole entire book.
