Reread Oct 2016. Still one of my favorite Dessen's of all time. The trifecta never fails.
Reread May 2021. It’s one of those things you don’t think about, you just do.

[Second Reading Review]
So this was my very first Dessen novel. I bought it from a discount store that sells books. They had a bunch of Dessen books but this one was the one that spoke to me so I picked it up. After reading it, I went back and bought the rest of the Dessen books. (About 3 more, I think.)
Still, this one was my favorite.
I read it again because I felt like I needed a good romance. And this romance...it's my favorite.
But I noticed something else that makes it special. Macy. I love all the Dessen heroines but Macy is someone who I relate to in a way that I can't with any others. There were some things she said and thought that matched perfectly to what I say, do, and believe about myself.
And how can you not love all of the other characters as well? I almost (almost...) felt bad for Jason even. (Though I also wanted to smack him upside the head.)
This is a story that touches my heart. And maybe it will always be my favorite Dessen novel. Or maybe not. But it will ALWAYS be my first.

Wow. This is hands down my favorite Sarah Dessen novel as of yet, hell it's one of my favorite novels hands down! Do you know the feeling when you read a certain book it just seperates itself from everything else you've ever read? Like it has it's own category, it was just that good! Well, that is exactly what The Truth About Forever did for me.
Macy is probably one of the coolest and most alike character to myself that I've ever read about. Maybe that's why I enjoyed this book so much... no, that's not the only reason though. I loved Delia, Kristy, Bert, Monica, and of course... WES! I'd like to meet someone who has read this book and not fell in love with Wes. Honestly, I'd be shocked if there were someone to not fall in love with his character.
I definitely feel like every character had such depth and was never lacking in any way. It's actually kind of depressing for this book to end. I feel like I'm losing my best friends in a weird way. I've just never felt so connected to a group of characters then the ones of The Truth About Forever. Would I recommend this? Duh! :) Go buy it. Right. Now.

Every time I finish a contemporary story such as this, I tell myself I need to read them more often. And it's true. We all need a story that has that specific arc, where you know it won't be perfect but it will end exactly where it's meant to. That's exactly how The Truth About Forever happened.
The Truth About Forever is the story of Macy, teen girl who has experienced grief and loss in multiple ways. It's a story about how she works through it over the summer. It's a story of love, and not just the romantic kind.
The Truth About Forever is a palette cleanser, especially for those of us who read a lot of heavy fantasy. It's a one-sitting book, not because it's easy or short but because you move through the story naturally. It's my first story by the author, and I know it won't be my last :).

I gave this book 4 stars out of 5
This is a story about a girl named Macy and her summer. She has a boyfriend named Jason and everything is good until Jason leaves and Macy gets a new job at a catering company and finds a new boy, Wes.
½ a star for Jason, the boy Macy is dating at the beginning of the book. Jason was so ridiculously annoying. He is too logical to the point of not making any sense at all. But that was the way the author wanted to portray him so he is perfect. He treats Macy very bad and that drove me crazy. No guy in his right mind should treat a girl like that.
1 star for the flow. Everything seemed to flow nicely. I never fell like parts when by to fast, nor did any parts lag on for a long time. The plot moved quickly.
1 ½ stars for the relationship. Wes and Macy have great chemistry from the very beginning and it did not seem forced or unrealistic.
2 stars for all the other little characters that worked at the catering company she works for, Wish. All these people seem genuine and want what is best for Macy. They seem more real than any of the people she knew before. They all have their own personalities and traits. They change over the point of the story but they don’t get confusing like some characters do.
-1 star for Macy’s mother. I have no idea why but she drove me crazy.

Wes has a lot of nerve making fun of Caroline’s commentary on his art when he makes what sounds like the most pretentious, ugliest sculptures ever. That being said, this is the best Sarah Dessen book I’ve read so far with the least pretentious love interest.
Another great book by Sarah. I found that the main character's biggest flaw was the fact that she was TOO obsessed with perfection that it started to border on annoying, but sometimes I figure that that is just how her character and personality is.
As someone who willingly buries herself under mountains of to-do lists -
As someone who hates not knowing how things will turn out -
As someone who struggles with acknowledging that life is anything but okay right now -
As someone who can stress and stress and stress until the cows come home -
I needed to read this.
