This is one of my favorite series and I love revisiting it. Mac and Sam are the ultimate in alpha male couples! So sexy and sweet at the same time. I love the ensemble cast and the serial killer plot that goes along with it. 5 stars are not enough and I can't wait for book 3 to come out!

Did you read book 1? Good continue. If you didn't STOP RIGHT HERE and read it. You will have absolutely not a clue what is going on if you do not.

Book 2 basically begins where book 1 ends. There are plenty of story lines still chugging along, while Sam and Mac are navigating their "new" normal. The no more rules normal. Thankfully, by the end of the book Sam gets a clue and realizes his feelings for Mac are genuine and strong. Mac on the other hand finally starts to stop holding back some of his more mushy side. I love these two together. Sam is a dick, but he is also so secretly insecure that I just wanna cuddle him up. Mac reads him so well and he knows just how to adjust to play Sam right into his arms. He beats him at his own game.

Killer wise we have a pretty good scoop on who's doing the horrific deeds. It starts to all untangle by the end, but I had so much fun puzzling it out with the rest of Sam's crew. Quite a few other surprises are packed into this book and the characters are all starting to realize how connected they all are. We also get a showdown with Sam and his bitter ex wife Gabby. She really is a detestable character and her actions in this book solidify that.

As I have stated in book 1 review I am super late to this party and it seems book 3 was never released even over 6 years later. There has been some chatter that it may be happening June 2020. I'll keep my fingers crossed because we still have so much to wrap up including actually catching said killer.

It was really tough to rate this one! Both this and the first book in the series hovered between 3 and 4 stars ... with my ultimately deciding to go with 3 for a couple of reasons. While I did enjoy the books and the excellent chemistry between the two MCs. I struggled somewhat with certain aspects of the story -- including the religious homophobia -- for some reason that really bothered me because it was so hatefully evil and also a bit of a cliche ... I felt like I had read/seen this same character before and he came across as stereotypical bible thumping nutjob and yeah, a bit of a cliche. The writing was strong in both books and I enjoyed the excellent craftsmanship that went into writing both books ... however, there were some slight inconsistencies that grated on me at times.

While both MCs were well fleshed out and engaging -- their individual personality traits did not always gel or make sense to me. There were times when I felt their roles in the relationships should have been reversed. Also, weird curve balls that seemingly came out of nowhere (ie. a surprise temporary marriage that made little sense to me) ... and exceedingly cruel behaviour that was way too easily forgiven/forgotten all for the sake of having a relationship (a little too much like a doormat for my taste?) ... and I particularly did not enjoy both the Amy and Gabi storylines ... I did not like how these women were cast as vindictive and irrationally cruel ... despite the fact that they actually had several very valid reason to be hurt/angry. Also, it makes me squeamish when kids are involved and there were some troubling circumstances associated with this story. The MCs came across as slightly callous and that affected how I felt about them/story. Also, I know it is the title of the books but the fact everyone knew everyone in New York/Huston ... big places and it just seemed unlikely and too much of a coincidence ...

There was another cliffhanger at the end of the second book though not as bad as the first. Cliffhanger endings infuriate me! Especially since there is no third book available yet. However, I don't know if I am drawn in enough that I would read the third book despite cliffhanger. I may because I didn't hate this series. I actually did enjoy them for the most part and found them entertaining ...

jesus, this series just keeps getting better! i think it's absolutely fantastic that we get glimpses into the killer's twisted mind; the changing POVs are also great. i just can't wait for the next installment. and if the first book hadn't made me fall in love with Logan, this one definitely did!

This is review for both books in series,[b:Six Degrees of Lust|11757362|Six Degrees of Lust (By Degrees, #1)|Taylor V. Second book is direct continuation of events happened in book #1, so if you start reading SDoL, be sure you have SDoS right next to you.

I have only one word to describe this series: Crackastic. This series is crackastic! It's one of those books you plan to read just three or four chapters of in the evening and before you know you read the whole book and sun is peeking through your curtains.

Both books are following two ongoing stories. One story is mystery: hunt for serial killer who targets gay men. The other one is relationship between Sam and Mac. Sam Shaughnessy is FBI agent who is in charge of task unit for Leviticus case. There is a great term Japanese use in manga that describe Sam perfectly. He is tsundere. Tsundere is like a person who is all prickly and sarcastic on the outside, but when you crack their shell you'll find they are really sweet and loving on the inside. Do I need to tell you that Sam was the drama queen in main relationship? Of course not. The thing with Sam and this novels is that as much as he was source of drama he was also a comedy relief. I'll be the first to tell you that I am not a fan of characters who have long internal struggle with their feelings toward another person, but I had so much fun reading Sam. He was so perfectly flawed and cute clinging desperately to safety of casual sex and not admitting he was a goner from the start.Mac O'Bannon is the perfect person to confuse the hell out of Sam. Mac is this gorgeous, Texan heir turned firefighter turned bar owner who is very easy going, perceptive and most importantly, has patience of a saint. The way he handled Sam was priceless. At the beginning I felt sorry for him,'cause Sam was such an asshole sometimes, but I'm glad author never made a pushover of Mac. Sex scenes were plenty, hot and enjoyable, so fear not. There is something for everybody.
As much as their relationship was entertaining to read, what really give this story crack-feel for me are supporting characters. There is so many of them: Logan, Duncan, Zane, Christian, Braxton... we got a glimpse of every one of them and naturally I'm interested to find out what's going to happen next.In that part this series reminded me so much of [b:A Matter of Time|7090484|A Matter of Time (A Matter of Time #1)|Mary Calmes|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1257198839s/7090484.jpg|7346614] series by Mary Calmes. They weren't just there to for the sake of Sam and Mac. There were in the story to spice everything up and open some new questions that promise to be interesting stories we'll hopefully get to read in the future. I am especially intrigued by Logan...
Half of star reduction is for mystery part of story. Author made a point of presenting Sam and his team (especially Logan and Duncan) as the best in their field, highly capable investigators and experienced professionals. That's why, I was frustrated when they seemed to stumble on evidences or not see what was right in front of them. There were clues a mile worth. The thing is, you just have to turn your brain off and enjoy the ride.
I saw that there was a year and a half part between books. That makes me extremely happy for I got to read both books at once... I would be insufferable otherwise.
Great read!

As with the first book in the series, Six Degrees of Lust, Taylor V. Donavan has brought her ensemble cast of characters together for more intrigue, mystery, family drama, danger, romance, and some pretty steamy moments between the two men who play their relationship like a strategic game of chess, sometimes planning several moves ahead, sometimes taking a risk and sacrificing a piece of themselves for the sake of capturing the greater prize later in the game.
