Rarely does a book actually make me angry. I hate Cole! Amazing insight into an abusive relationship. You really feel Alex's confusion, how she justifies the abuse, and the shame.

The book handled the matter well enough but there were some cringe worthy sentence structures and some times when the book just didn't read well at all which was frustrating.

Overall a decent read and good for anyone who wonders how someone in an abusive relationship thinks.

I found that sadly the entire way through the book I really couldn't care very much about the character(s). I will not say it was the worst YA book I have read, but it left me very bored both with both the character(s) and the story line. I also found that I was unable to really connect and relate with the main character.

When Alex first starts going out with Cole, she can't believe how lucky she is. Cole cares about her and he gets her and she can easily imagine them being together forever. But as Cole's "playful" shoves and pinches begin to escalate into more serious violence, Alex finds herself trapped. But the only thing worse than the thought of staying with him and enduring the physical pain is losing him.

Jennifer Brown perfectly captures first the elated feeling of first love and then the trapped feeling of being caught in an unhealthy relationship. I yelled at Alex and I ached for her and I wanted to scoop her up and protect her.

Bitter End was a hard book to read, not because it was bad or anything but because it was written well. It was written so well that I genuinely felt creepy while reading it. Bitter End is the story of Alex and Cole, who meet and fall in love. Alex truly feels like she has found “The One” but she cannot ignore the fact that Cole is increasingly getting paranoid, mean and downright abusive. Will she be able to find the courage to leave him?

As much as Cole was written as a nice guy in the beginning, I just couldn’t get into it. From the summary, you already know that Cole is the “bad guy” here. He’s the abusive one so I viewed every action of his, every narrowing of his eyes, every possessive touch as just a symptom of his downward spiral.

Once again, we have a female lead that, for some reason, stays with her abusive boyfriend. I’m not saying I understand this since I have never been in this situation, but I simply can’t see why she would. Cole clearly isn’t a good person for her. The argument is that she wants to be the one who saves him because he’s in a bad place as well, and it’s as valid as any other reason but for Alex to go so far as saying that it’s because Cole loves her and no one has ever loved her before, that’s a bit of a stretch for me. Surely, her two best friends, loyal and protective to the very end, love her too?

All in all, it was a difficult story to read but a necessary one that had to be told. My only real gripe is that why is it that abusive characters in books never get their just desserts? It’s only implied that Cole got into trouble
Spoilerfor a previous offence
and not for what he did to Alex. His treatment to Alex was pretty brutal and people did find out in the end, so whatever happened to him? :(

Me gusto pero odie a Alex. No lo pudo dejar e hizo falta que la deje hecha polvo en el piso para que al fin terminara todo el lio :S

This book. My freaking God. As quoted by my friend, there should be a warning at the front saying YOU'RE GOING TO FREAKING CRY BECAUSE I LIKE TORTURING MY FREAKING READERS, OKAY? GOOD. Like no joke. Jennifer Brown is the ONLY author to EVER make me teary-eyed; I usually just cry internally. But no. Brown likes freaking TORTURING YOU.
But I won't deny her talent. Or how freaking PERFECT this book is. The characters. My gosh. And the plot and the sadness and the ajlkdstjlfjaklsfj. I LOVE her writing. She's INCREDIBLE at writing books and I'm dying to read her other two books. Seriously, Jennifer. You have a gift given to you by like, some old dead great author. He goes down and picks only a few perfect authors and she's one of them.
But in case you haven't gotten this, I LOVED it. I'll probably reread it soon, after finishing a few other books. :) If

you are looking for an amazing teen fiction novel that will give you lots of feels, this is it!

I don't think it's really fair for me to reveiw this book, considering I skimmed a lot of it.

I just could not stand any of the characters, they were all either selfish, abusive, annoying, pathetic or obnoxious. I never liked Cole or Alex. Cole right away I knew something was up with him. As for Alex from the start it was all "woe is me" all the time, but when presented with the chance to fix her situation she forgave her abusive boyfriend because he "love her". God forbid I ever get that stupid when I'm in love. I give you all permission to kill me if I become as dumb as she was. She also had this problem where she ignored all her friends for Cole, then bitched because they stopped making the effort and time to hang out with her, or if they made new friends.

Zach and Beth I liked at first, but Zach got kind of obnoxious, although he would be my most liked character of everyone in this book. Bethany got so selfish and bitter, even when Alex tried to be friends again. I don't know, maybe it was just me, but I did not enjoy this book. Except for when she was getting attacked by Cole because that was the only interesting parts, which is the only reason it got two stars.

I regret buying this. I really, honestly gave this book a shot, I loved Hate List. It's one of my all time favorites and this one... Frankly sucked major ass.

An excellent and important story about relationship abuse. Longer review to come.
