I don’t like that a lot of people try to compare this to Sarah J. Maas books because to be completely honest none of it even comes remotely close. It’s fantasy sure but in no way does it compare.
The book wasn’t bad but my biggest issue is that we essentially knew what was going to happen because of the first chapter. It was a great chapter to get you pulled in but after that I was like, well darn, I already know what is going to happen. I did faulter though on the time jump. I had to reference back to the first chapter to ground myself.
The MC Eliana reallllyyyy irritated me, the whole I’m a badass concept came off really forced. The first couple of chapters of Eliana had me questioning if I was going to finish the book. However, I did and essentially skipped that “I will kill you, I will murder you, I will do this or that” parts. It just didn’t seem real.
I found that I was more interested in Rielle’s story then Eliana. If we could just have her story first and then maybe the second book be of Eliana and their time period maybe I would have liked it more.

I feel like anything I rate under three stars I have to justify why. Firstly the story itself is good, I like the idea and where the author was taking it. But then there's the characters and the dialogue which basically for me just made reading about them and their interactions with each other so incredibly PAINFUL. A lot of it felt forced and very cheesy. And I felt as though it just made the characters unrealistic for what story tells me they should be like.
Furyborn, a YA novel, follows two young women, Rielle Dardenne and Eliana Ferracora, whose worlds are separated by a full millennium, but whose destinies are intertwined.
Reilly possesses all seven kinds of elemental magic, an unprecedented number compared to some people who possess one. And Eliana a bounty hunter/assassin who’s body has the ability to heal itself. According to a prophesy two individuals with such powers will emerge one queen will be the Sun Queen, a queen of light who brings protection and salvation. The other will be the Queen of Blood, a bringer of death and destruction. But who is who? The novel takes us chapter by chapter revealing their secrets through trials, and ambushes.
A very cool concept for a novel. Overall, I feel it was missing a climax in the plot. There was great writing, pace and the delivery on building the characters and setting however just when it was amounting to something we have to go to book two. Not even much of a build up or even cliff hanger. Something else that did not deliver for me was the heterosexual romance (duh it’s YA). It would be nice to have a reason to believe these people are interested in each other besides the fact that they’re are just there. I didn’t become that invested.
It was a decent read, however, the more time passes, the less memorable it feels to me, either in setting or in character. I know there are sequels to this book, but I don’t feel compelled to continue the series.

2.5. Audiobook consumption, however i would recommend reading this physically. Going back and forwards between past and present while changing character perspectives was quite confusing. As the two main female were hard to distinguish between as audio voice were similars as well their personality.
As well as the plot was confusing. However it did start to makes sense by the end of the book. But it did make the rest of the book less enjoyable. Did plan on continuing the series

fave book of 2021 so far, but that said, it's only the second one I've read this year
I loved the format of this book. Two women separated thousands of years apart. Very interesting.

I usually understand if I will love or not a book at page 3. With this one, instead, it took me more or less half of the book (and even there, I still wasn't completely sure).
I started Furyborn with quite a lot of hype, mostly because every time I saw people taking about it they always said how good and original and underrated it was. And I *partially* agree with that.
The writing style is definitely something peculiar and different than what I'm used to read and I really liked this particual take on angels, but my main problem was how the book was divided: I didn't mind it that much, but it was annoying to have a change of POV /each chapter/ (some situations would have worked way better if Rielle and Eliana had sometimes two or three chapters instead of just one).
I must say that a good part of my rating was in fact given because of Eliana's storyline (I have a thing for assassins with a soft heart hidden deep down among their sorrows and sadness), I really liked to see her growth and I can't wait for the moment when she will finally embrace the woman she is destined to be. Rielle's one was okay, I guess, just I just didn't really clicked with her.
It's, to conclude, a book I would recommend, but not one I'm sure everyone would definitely love.
