DID NOT FINISH

Main points: Boring, queer baiting

This was a hard attempt to read. The premise was so great but the main characters are bland cookie cutter types. It was also marketed as an LGBTQ book. Its not. Literally just normalized gayness. There's gay married men in here.

I managed to make it to 176 before giving up. I try not to DNF books, but this one really was hard to get into. Eliana is supposed to be a bad ass assassin and bisexual, there is zero real emotion expressed from her like she really is a background character when she's supposed to be the MC. Simon is the only intriguing character I came across through the parts of the book I made it too.

Rielle is *almost* as bad as the other MC but at least seems a little bit more evolved and thought through. My biggest issue is the POV switching is so often, with barely any story told in between the changes that you can't connect to either of the MC'S. I struggle to see Rielle how I'm guessing I'm supposed to see her. This repressed beaten down girl because her father hates her. But she barely seems affected by her father's supposed hatred and the fact she killed her mother when she was little in an accident.

I could not make it through this book. It really wasn't my cup of tea.

I am obsessed with this book. I enjoyed the characters—especially how flawed they are. It was written beautifully. When I bought the series, I knew I was going to love it—I was correct with that assumption. The changing of the timelines every chapter (along with the multitude of cliffhangers) did mess me up a little. Having slight memory issues, it took a few moments to recall which event belonged to which timeline. But overall, I respect the choice and the artistic design of it all because it worked well. I think I would recommend this book until my last breath.

Can’t wait to start the next one!!

3.75 🌟

Really enjoyed this one!
The format was interesting and reminded me of the Queen of the Tearling series. I’m still a bit hesitant about some aspects & developments of the plot but I’m sure the sequels will clarify that. Can’t wait for the next instalment!

Review update: I liked a bit more this time around. I still like Rielle more than Eliana. I realised the best thing when reading it was not over thinking about and just enjoying it. 3 stars

Furyborn was quite a popular book when it came out and I am glad I waited to read it because it was very underwhelming.

In this book we follow two women separated by thousands of years: Rielle and Eliana.

Rielle This girl was naive. Though explains considering how sheltered she was. However, she was still interesting. I appreciated that she wasn't scared of powers and was prepared to tackle the challenges in front of her. She is more interesting character than Eliana.

Eliana Eliana contains all the tropes I really don't like. Assassin, badass bitch with a cold heart that eventually warms up because a guy shows up, has a pointless sibling that doesn't do much which is their connection to "humanity" blah blah.

Look I did enjoy this book until I really think about it. I feel it had SO much potential but I felt the author tried to put too much into this book. It would have been better if it was kept more simple and not have so many magical elements and peoples in it.

Both FMC were insufferable and annoying to no end. I hated almost every character, and the few that I liked were not enough.  The writing is okay and the plot wasn't interesting enough to make-up for everything else, it was a mediocre plot overall.
I won't continue with this serie, and will unhaul the book as soon as possible. It could have been a 3 🌟 if at the end I could have seen a little character development,  but there was none.
