Maybe it felt extra tedious because I was listening to this book instead of reading it so it was 17 hours of my life I can’t get back. I can’t believe it was that long and there’s a sequel. The first chapter of the book is how it ends/starts and we still don’t know what happened after 500 pages and hold on I just looked it up and it’s going to be a TRILOGY?? The characters were predictable, the love triangles boring. There was only one twist in the book that caught me by surprise. I felt like there was no character growth. I get easily emotional but the saddest I got was when a horse died. I feel like I already know what’s going to happen in the next two (!?) books.

Not going to lie, while I was reading this I was confused. I was constantly trying to figure out what was going to happen and how they were going to fix everything. But I couldn’t

3.5 out of 5 stars

Initial thoughts: I liked it for the most part. The magic system was interesting, a little vague at times, but still somewhat unique. The story is intriguing and the slow development of the villains in the story is well done. My issue with this book lies with the characters. I didn’t like either of the protagonists. Despite being strong, capable women, neither Eliana’s or Rielle’s personalities were endearing. I had a hard time caring about them and their ambitions/desires.

I have to think some more about this though. Full review to come.

Read a couple of chapters (little past 3) of Furyborn but DNF due to main character pining (lot of sexual thoughts) after another's betrothed and it was ANNOYING!

It took me a bit to get used to the POV flipping between the two characters, but I ended up adoring this book. The story of Rielle/Audric and Eliana/Simon, weaved past and current, takes readers on an amazing journey. I loved that I didn't know who was friend or foe and if what was happening in the current time could really be impacted by what had happened in the past. Claire Legrand had me completely mesmerized and I can't wait to see what happens next. Long live the Queen!

Absolutely loved this book. I received an advanced copy from the publisher and I couldn't put it down.

This is one of those books that make you forget you're reading. You sit down and start it, next thing you know it's been hours and you're finished.

The way it goes in the beginning you're so very confused. It's told in two timelines that are a thousand years apart and you're like wtf? The more you read the clearer everything becomes and you're shocked because you definitely didn't expect ✨️that✨️.

I also really appreciated the characters. Typically the hero is this good person who just wants to save the world and the fmcs here are like nah bitch. They're selfish and petty and I absolutely here for it.

I'm honestly really bummed I waited this long to read it

Już dawno nie czułam, że mnie książka tak zaintrygowała, jestem okropnie ciekawa, co wydarzy się w 2 i 3 tomie!

When Rielle’s best friend and the heir prince is ambushed, she uses her immense power and magic to save him. But she should not possess such power; only the prophesied Sun Queen and Blood Queen have the power of all seven elements. So, Rielle faces seven challenges in an effort to prove she is the prophesied Sun Queen; if she fails, she will be killed.

One thousand years later, bounty hunter Eliana lives in a world where Rielle’s story is only legend. Eliana has performed bounty services for the Empire and believes she is protected from their wrath – until her mother disappears along with scores of other women in her land. Eliana joins forces with a fierce rebel captain and learns just how much evil reigns in her homeland.

I wanted to like this. It was 491 pages and I gave it a week of my reading time. The opening prologue was FANTASTIC and I was happy to keep reading. But then I started to get uncomfortable with the switch back and forth between Rielle and Eliana and their respective timelines. And I usually adore multi-viewpoint novels. This one felt jarring. It didn’t flow between stories; I felt jerked between the eras.

Most annoying though was the feeling that a big reveal should have happened and was ruined.
SpoilerWhy tell us the Wolf is Simon? Since Wolf is Simon, Eliana is obviously going to be Rielle’s daughter. Why not just share that fact when Simon was named? The suspense is gone so you may as well just say it. Either hide it or don’t – do not go halfway.

When I only care to know the fate of secondary characters (Remy and Navi), I find myself dropping a book rating. In fact, Remy and Navi as well as the opening scene are the things that saved this book from a one-star rating. I mean, when I close the cover for the last time and I actually think “Well, that was fairly forgettable” that is not a good sign. I have no desire to read the sequels.

This was a story with remarkable promise that fizzled and burned.
