I can’t handle this book right now. I don’t know if it’s the political climate or what but it’s definitely not helping and it seems unnecessarily violent.
I find the two perspectives maddening. As soon as I get into one story I’m ripped away and placed in a completely different one only to be swapped back. It makes it very difficult to follow the many threads of this story ans keep any details straight.
I liked plot and I might come back to this later in a different headspace but I’m shelving it for now.

yooooo wtffff. I love twists and turns I know this series is gonna have my head spinning I love it!!!

With the amount of pages in this book I am disappointed by the world building and the author’s ability to describe action sequences. It was both too long and not enough? Very odd.
Love the concept so I will continue to read the series, hopefully the other 2 books improve from a craft standpoint.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

When I came across ‘Furyborn’, it was marketed as a stunningly original fantasy with strong female characters, their stories intertwined but separated by centuries. It definitely lived up to this description, though I don’t know if this unique idea was presented in the best way.

I generally like books with dual or multiple POV chapters, but I did not find that it worked well with ‘Furyborn’. It is one thing to share the views and experiences of multiple characters living in the same place and time - but this was so much more complex. To explain the differences in the world of Rielle and Eliana across centuries, effectively means you’ve got to worldbuild and info dump for the reader twice. Because of this, I didn’t feel like I was able to really connect with the characters until much later in the book than I normally would. Part of me wonders if the dual character storylines would have been better executed as a book staged in parts, rather than alternating the POVs of the main characters nearly every chapter.

That being said, I was enraptured with the world of ‘Furyborn’, particularly during Rielle’s time. From the different saints, to the cleverly-named temples and power wielders, and even the Queens of Prophecy felt unique (when prophecies can often feel cliché). My favourite of these being the names ‘Sunspinner’, ‘Windsinger’, ‘the Holdfast’ and ‘the Firmament’.

There were plot twists and reveals that I certainly didn’t see coming, and by the second-half of the book I was really intrigued with the events both Rielle and Eliana were experiencing. I also really liked all of the side characters that formed the friendship circles and travelling parties of the two main characters.

Despite taking a long time to connect with Rielle and Eliana in book one of this trilogy, I’ll definitely be sticking with them in the next books! There’s so much left to be discovered with the two of them and I need to know what happens to them both!

Being the first of a trilogy, there’s certainly less I can discuss but lessgooo.

The book divides its time into two characters, Rielle and Eliana. Both live their lives centuries apart, yet are obviously connected ;)

Now one of the main things that contribute to a good fantasy book is world-building. There is a fine balance between making it complex and complicated. Swing one way too much and you’ve already lost your readers. Furyborn didn’t have a particularly difficult concept to understand, so that was a relief, to actually understand things along the way.

Next thing. Characters. Truth be told, I didn’t really ‘get into it’ till maybe a bit past halfway through the book. Until Eliana tried to escape, the book was a bit bland, with nothing other than my interest in the characters’ personalities keeping me going on.

I would say Eliana’s world had me more interested than the weird thing Rielle, Audric and Ludivine had going on? Oh and Corien too???? Very confused about that last part.

bUT.

For a fantasy book, it was good, and I think I might finish the trilogy too
