This book was so much better than I was actually expecting it to be!! I LOVED the dual POV. I really enjoyed the storytelling and was able to savor the story. It was a really fun read for me. It was fast paced, action packed, and full of suspense. I already have the second book downloaded on my Kindle…..

Really difficult to rate this. I enjoyed the fact it was set in two separate eras, but while the plot of one was definitely a 3*, the other was more of a 4*.

This book had so much potential but as I kept reading I was honestly let down. The introduction was amazing and the way but as the story continues I started to get confused between the different timelines. Both Rielle and Eliana's POVs were pretty much the same thing every chapter and I never felt sucked into the book. The characters themselves didn't have a lot of thought put into them and there wasn't much development. I felt like it was trying to be ACOTAR too much which just didn't work with it at all. I would've given this book a one if it wasn't for the intro and the ending.

3.5

I received an ebook ARC from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review!

This was a really solid YA fantasy book, but the ending went in a much different direction than I was expecting.

I was frustrated by some of the decisions that the characters made. The book never explained why they suddenly changed their mind about things. I found some elements and characters were introduced to advance the plot and then were never brought up again and things weren't resolved. There was a meaningful death pretty early on and one of the protagonists was upset briefly and then it wasn't mentioned except like once or twice randomly.

I found the sex scenes and one of the romantic pairings to be unnecessary to the plot.

I would have preferred to read this as a physical copy so that I could go back and check certain things with the timeline.

I found myself thinking about this book when I wasn't able to read it, which shows how invested I was in the story. The ending surprised me and I'm not sure I'm going to like the direction the story will go in, but I'm intrigued enough to carry on with book 2 whenever it's released.

A great fantasy series to add to your collection

I was hesitant at the opening to this book as I thought it was going to be super edgy, but I was pleasantly surprised. The plot and stylistic choice of breaking up that chapters was wonderful. Each end of a chapter would leaving me so hung up on that character that I had to keep reading and then the cycle continued. There was wonderful world building in this novel whether it be the actual world or the lore that surrounded the story. I also thought the characters were pretty well thought out and stood out in their own way. I do think that there could be a change when it came to word choice or maybe a bit more editing at times but otherwise I really enjoyed this book and I'm planning on purchasing the next.

It was hell trying to get through this book. I really wish that I liked it but I just couldn’t. I basically had to force myself to read it. Eliana made this book so unenjoyable. Rielle on the other hand was one of my favorite characters in this book.

I am making the conscious decision to DNF this book, nothing spoke to me and I did not like knowing the ending before the beginning.

I liked one POV more than the other, so I mostly wanted to be with that character. Due to the switching back and forth between the POV's some of the big events felt skimmed over.

this book took more time and energy to get through than i expected, but not in a bad way.

it felt a bit like the culmination of every element of every fantasy book i’ve ever read, so it was a lot of information to juggle and to keep straight, but once i got the hang of it, i loved it.

very much into simon, very much into audric, and tragically for me and my therapist, very much into corien.

looking forward to the next book, and where the plot will go!

well-written, delicious fantasy series with a smidge of spice (barely any, but enough to keep you hooked). only flaw is the sheer amount of information to know - and even that is barely a flaw. after weeks of uncomplicated, unimpressive books, this hit the spot. like eating at a michelin starred restaurant after weeks of 7/11 taquitos.

Disappointing, but unfortunately I’m curious about what really happened to Rielle... so yeah, I’m going to have to read the next book.
