First and foremost! I wanna say that the narrator was excellent! It made the book more enjoyable and really made you feel like you were in Noah's head.
As for the book in general, it took me a while to really get in to it. I believe it's because the author took a while since the Mara Dyer trilogy to start this new series. Although it's in Noah's perspective, the story really banks on many things that happened in the previous three books. Once I started remembering who everyone was (others I had to look the characters online to remember) and what had happened in those previous books, the story started to make more sense and I was able to get in to the book a little bit more.
I gave it only 3 stars, because although the writing was good, it didn't grab me like the previous three books, until the end (why do authors do that?). It is always the last chapter... the middle is ok, but they always make up for it in that last chapter. That f*****g ending though! Bah! Anyways, hoping the next book will bring more answers and pick up a bit more of the pace since some parts felt more like filler.

2.25 stars***
i quite literally cannot stand having characters have their memories erased so close to the end. like what the fuck????? like how is he supposed to come back from this, how is mara going to deal with this.
the way these books are written the characters are so ooc sometimes, the way noah would say certain things vs to who he was in mara dyer? does not add up. it was surprised at the end, i am god that sophie is the one causing the suicides and not mara because that was predictable. jamie’s storyline? was something, i like to know at least what was in his letter. i liked seeing goose in here too, maybe goose and jamie will get some more page time in book 3? there was reveal on reveal in here, it was kind of annoying some of them felt random while others predictable.
marashaw death trope is written in the stars, they are literally serving star crossed lovers. i hope it is done well because i have been disappointed time and time again.

i did have trouble getting into the beginning and seeing more plot twists on plot twist but i do love the direction the book goes towards the end. the hints of mara being the one starts in book three but it was a bit predictable, there is a lot of unanswered questions but now i am kinda of interested.
seeing the way everyone fears mara and the way her character is going backwards not forward sort of bothered me i feel like there was so much potential and mara’s character seems off? maybe that was intentional idk… but the ending? wow og mara making an appearence is really cool i did not expect that but im sort of curious.
also noah’s will to not be alive was really something in this book, i hope to see things get a bit better, maybe with marashaw separated they can grow on their own? also the death trope is being set up i see it.

“If I believed in God I would pray, beg, anything to stop time, to live in this moment with her forever. Tonight is a perfect thing in a broken world, and she is the queen of it”

i think if i had discovered this series closer to when i read the mara dyer trilogy i would have eaten it up.. as it is i just don’t care. plus this is unfinished possibly indefinitely and what if the series actually gets really good and i can’t finish it?? not worth the risk tbh
If you loved the way, the Mara Dyer trilogy ended and are in a happy place this series may upset that peace. I've come to learn that when it comes to Mara Dyer, nothing is ever at it seems. For me, there were a few threads and questions like that ominous prophecy regarding Mara and Noah left unanswered so, I had to dive in.
I listened to the first series on audio, narrated by Christy Romano, so I didn't even hesitate to go that root this time. The Dyer trilogy was told from Mara's perspective and brief perspectives of Noah. The Becoming of Noah Shaw is narrated by new to me narrator, Joe Jameson. While I appreciated his accent for Noah, I loathed his voice for Mara, and it was jarring to hear these characters with a different voice after becoming used to Romano's interpretation. I was like, who are these people? I understand why the publishers went with a male narrator, but for the listener's sake, I wish they had kept Romano.
The Becoming of Noah Shaw addresses many questions, delves into Noah's Dad, gives us Noah's perspective and shares some rather enlighting and freakish things about Mara. Creepy characters, threats, and danger for them all kept me listening. Threads left unexplored in the first trilogy are addressed, but new questions arise, and we see the flashbacks of events from the first trilogy. We knew Mara was an unreliable narrator but wowzers. I did not see that coming. I will leave you to discover them.
Noah is a complex character with not only baggage but a gift that often feels more like a curse. He's depressed and unsure, and Mara is his anchor. We all know Mara is the anti-hero and Noah will be tested. The story offers a mystery as something is happening to gifted ones. As always Hodkin hooked me, and despite not being thrilled with the narration, I need to know more. Noah has his father's files now, and I just want to sit down and read them all...
For fans of the series, I think you will either love The Becoming of Noah Shaw or hate it. Hodkin can weave a tale and I am curious to see where she takes us. I just hope I survive. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

What I liked about this books:
- Noah's voice
- The story itself is great, and could have been very good
- There is much potential for the characters
What I didn't like:
- It was boring
- I was neither invested nor did I remember what had gone down in the OG trilogy
- How detached I felt of the characters, both main and secondary

This is my second go at reading Noah #1. I wanted to read Reckoning since I am way behind on it, but needed to reread the first because...I couldn’t for the life of me really remembered what happened is the first one and shit I was right. Nothing really happens in the first which is a let down for me. The first time I read it I loved it I devoured it bc it’s Noah duh, but reading it again (now as a writer) I was just taken aback by the lack of plot that left me confused and with so many unanswered questions. So 3 stars. Gonna dive into reckoning now. Godspeed.
