Sisters of the Snake by Sasha Nanua, Sarena Nanua

This isn't really grabbing me. Not bad, just not want I'm interested in right now.

Twins separated as babies, one raised as a princess, one growing up in an orphanage and now stealing for a living, are brought together by random circumstances. Also their family seems to have magic involving snakes and the setting is some sort of alternate India where magic may be real.

I'm more into the fantasy and this is more into the YA, I think?

This was my second read, but first time listening to Soneela Nankani narrating. She really added another layer to the book for me with her intonation, tone and proper pronunciation of all the delicious foods.
Princess Rani longs to escape her gilded cage and doesn’t want to marry her fiancee Said. Ria is a former orphan and now a thief with Amir.
They meet and decide to swap living as each other.
I prefer Ria as Rani’s story line. She is feisty and opinionated and has a good sense of justice.
Rani as Ria is a little whiney and naive.
I enjoyed this book more the second time around to prep for reading the second book.
The imagery is incredibly vivid and the worldbuilding great. It’s cool there are different kinds of magic.

Sisters of the Snake sort of gave me Aladdin meets the Parent Trap vibes.

When Ria and Rani realize that they are twins they quickly decide to switch places. Unlike the movie, The Parent Trap, their mission isn't to bring their parents back together. Mostly because one grew up being an orphan while the other didn't. I was very intrigued with their switch because I wanted to see how they would adopt to the others life.

Now you are probably wondering why Aladdin? Well, why not? No, seriously, the Aladdin vibes are when the father is under a spell and doesn't really know what's going on. Until it's broke that is. Plus, the snakes, magic, and red jewel just made me think of Jafar. Which, yes, now I want to drop everything and watch Aladdin.

Ever since I met Ria and Rani, I actually really liked them. I think the switch definitely made them better as a person. It was also interesting to see how they could or couldn't fool the people close to them either. Eventually they started to see the clues but dang, it took them a while to finally figure it all out.

As for the villain, and the overall secrets coming out, I didn't see it coming until it was too late. I think it's because I kept pausing my audiobook a lot to answer work phone calls and it just made me miss the clues here and there. Still, I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the sequel. Especially with how this all ended.

In the end, I want to know who the master is. Super excited for the sequel to come out this summer.
