Aside from a few frustrating characters, really enjoyed the main character, Wolf. The plot was twisty and compelling.

This book reads like an autobiography and I never really questioned it because it always felt real. It went back in forth through the history of the narrator and the present circumstances flawlessly and didn't make me want to rush to find anything out.

I love [a:Lori Lansens|26413|Lori Lansens|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1433358196p2/26413.jpg] and this latest title is no exception. Eighteen year old Wolf is fed up with his dysfunctional family when he goes for a walk in the mountain, and his life is profoundly changed when he meets a group of women who ask him for assistance. Lansens vividly describes the wilderness, wildlife, and weather in this tale of survival and sacrifice.

The audio version is beautifully and sensitively performed.

Highly recommended.

This probably would have been a 3.5-4 star had it not been for the last chapter. All in all it was a good read, but a few too many plot twists and at times felt like there was a lot happening at once. Lansens didn't really describe the various surroundings of the mountain in a way that I could envision it.
I loved the relationship between Wolf and Byrd, but again that ending left me feeling super unsatisfied.

The book started off slow. I was interested to see what happened but not really invested.

It wasn't until I was 2/3 of the way through that I felt the book picked up and delivered.

Those last 100ish pages. Wow. I stayed up way too late to devour them. I was shocked, I teared up a few times, I was nervous.
The last pages the stakes became higher, the adventure bigger and the surprises larger.

Overall not a great book, but the last 100 pages saved it from a 2 star read for me.

This was a weird book. It was good, and addictive, I couldn't put it down, and it really sucked you in. I read on the bus and metro every day but almost never get distracted enough to miss my stop. Reading this book though, I was lost to the world. I'm not sure I can really say that I enjoyed it though...hence only 3 stars. If it had been a true story I think I would feel differently, but as fiction, I don't know... It was just weird.
