Making my way through the series. I knew a great deal of this story as it is one of the cases that the Amazon Bosch series is based on. There are some differences which I really liked. These variations from the TV production made the book well worth reading.

As always an enjoyable read.

As always, smoothly written and very professional. Not quite as good as some of the earlier books in the series though.

Really, really enjoyed this.
I liked the main character (Bosch).
I connected with most of the others.
There were twists and turns and little mysteries to tease the mind everywhere.
I also liked that it covered most parts of a prosecution process. Besides the detective work, it also included elements of proper procedure and actually building up a case that would stand up in court.
It kept me reading in bed on a Saturday morning long after I should have in order to find out what happens in the end.
The ending wasn't quite as satisfying as I would have liked, but it was enough to keep me happy. And, considering it was a cold case, probably more than what realistically would have happened if this were in any way a true story.

Michael Connelly is a good author. In the sense that I began reading this book on Tuesday, and finished it on Saturday. It's a book that I wanted to keep reading. That said, I don't feel too much desire to read any more of his books. I've read only 2 now, but I can see the themes that he writes about. Death, and the investigation that ensues. And a relationship between the male investigator and a woman somehow involved in the case. Something MUST happen to the relationship because of the male's lack of trust, and it ends. The male is then left alone. Oh, and then the case is probably solved--but not in a way where the good guys always win. Instead, despite that the good guys win, the wins are bittersweet. I liked it for 1 book, not as much the 2nd book, but just have no desire to read it again.

Fortsetter mitt svært så vellykkede lytteprosjekt av Connelly's Bosch-serie. Denne 8'ern like god som de andre, like avhengighetsskapende og nå - min nettopp påbegynte nr 9, Bosch på egenhånd?

Another great Harry Bosch book. I liked to see Harry pursuing the redemption he indicated he'd be looking for at the end of a Darkness More Than Night. The ending was a surprise and I can't imagine having read that in real time. Connelly continues to deliver!

After watching five seasons of the TV show Bosch, I figured it was about time I picked up one of Michael Connelly's novels starring the detective. Watching the show first definitely gave me context as to the setting (Hollywood) and the characters, of course- but other things helped too- the chain of command, the layout of the precinct, and the all around feeling of Bosch's world. Seeing as how I'd already seen the show, I figured I could just jump in the series anywhere and not get lost, and I was right. These seem to be mostly contained stories, like an episode of CSI. If you like procedurals, cop shows or forensics, you'll love this series. Bosch himself is nothing original- he's a stubborn, nose to the grindstone cop who's served his country and is determined to see justice done, no matter what barriers need to be pushed or rules need to be broken.
This particular story, about bones being found and a twenty year old murder being solved- is also nothing new, to be sure. However, the story reads well. The leaps in logic make sense, the breadcrumbs laid out in such a way that the reader can follow along with Bosch, and we're never felt left in the dark. This is a well done, fast-paced mystery, and I had trouble putting it down. My only lament here is that the ending felt rushed, and left me feeling rather unsatisfied. Also, a warning for those readers coming here after watching the show: Bosch has no daughter in the books (at least not in this one) and Edgar, his partner, is completely different, which bothers me. Other than that, I had a good time, and I will certainly read another in the Bosch universe.
