This is a favorite book from childhood. Evertime I read it again, I love it just as much.

One of my all time favorite books growing up. As a child it really did teach me to be kind to all people. Not because of who they might be but because of who I wanted to be.

I bought this book at the Friends of the Public Library sale this past week. I had read it as a child, and was happy to find a copy. I like that Nyasha befriends Nyoka. This tale definitely tells us that character is more important than outer beauty. It also tells us that character is observable and transparent. :) I like that the king takes many shapes.

An interesting African fable, unpredictable despite its familiar setting and development.

A great story because of the message: It's not how you look, but who you are and how you treat others that will give you a good life. Twin sisters are asked to meet the prince of an African village. Both girls must journey to meet him, and are met along the way by various characters who are actually the prince in magical disguise. One girl treats others with contempt while the other treats them with respect. So, guess which of the twins the prince chooses to marry?

I still keep this book in my book case, I loved it and it's message. Whenever possible, be kind.

An absolutely beautiful book!

Bases on an African folktale.

Love that Manyara is proved wrong: "silly kindness" is not a weakness.

A man is blessed with two beautiful daughters, though one hides her greed and meanness from her father. When a nearby king lets it be known that he is looking for a wife, Manyara sneaks ahead, but her selfishness is shown on the way and she is not greeted warmly by the king. Nyasha follows with her father and her kindness is recognized.
