Beautiful illustrations and nice to have an African setting, but unfortunate that one daughter is "all bad" and the other "all good". When I talk to my niece (the main audience for these children's books), I often remind her that not everything is a contest and you don't need to always make someone "bad" and someone else "good." This book definitely contradicts the message, since the "mean sister" ends up as a servant in her sister's palace. How about a little redemption, folks?

This is honestly one of my favorite books. In this Cinderella tale, there are 2 distinct and different daughters. One cannot begin to the think of others while the other only thinks of others. It is a well done story that provides some gasp factor when thinking about some of the things the girls encounter. The illustrations are exquisite and the book is truly a classic.

Not bad, but it didn't really grab me. Some similarities to the Cinderella tale. Ultimately proves that kindheartedness is rewarded. Pretty illustrations.

I read this with my 8-year-old grandniece and we both loved it!

(HS collection) a classic! a bit heterocetera, but a good folk tale lesson on the importance of living with kindness, and the fulfillment it gives. beautiful colorful illustrations as well!

Cute Fable.

One of my all time favorite books as a child growing up. I love the message behind the story line. This book has shaped me in to the woman I am today.

A beautifully illustrated, well written children's fairy tale. I especially liked the notes about where the tale, pictures and names came from. I'd like a copy of this to read to my children.

A short but beautiful African story in both message and artwork.
