A little boring in the beginning, but then... BANG excitement. I only gave it three stars because of the beginning, but the rest of the book was absolutely amazing!

If I had read this when my mother bought it for me all those years ago, I think I’d have liked it more. Unfortunately I’ve read a ton of similar books now so this one is just ok. The setting is great. Some of the action scenes are written perfectly. There’s things to like in this book. It’s just not for me.

I tried to read this book once before, more than a year ago. Somewhere around page 100 I stopped because I couldn't really get into the story.

Felt a little bit the same this time and figured out why. This book could be more describing, since the main character, Ty, is living on the bottom of the ocean. I just couldn't picture the submarines, the homes and the trade station and lower decks. I've never really seen those things, so it was and still is, hard to see the whole picture in my mind.
That is the only reason I gave the book 3 stars and not more.

I LOVE the story. I love sealife and this book had a great story. So cool that this book is written from the perspective of a boy, while most books are written from the perspective of a girl.
Unique setting, underwater. And loved the plot twists, really did not see most of them coming.

Would recommend this book, you need a lot of imagination though!

I think I'm in a reading slump. This just wasn't very good. It was rather boring until the last 100 pages, and I didn't like the western-style language that some people spoke in; I understand if the world building was based on it, but thar doesn't mean that all the children in this story have to use 'ma', 'pa', or 'pops', with an overdose of ain'ts.

2/5 stars. The world was way to complex off the bat, there was hardly any real character development, the writing was choppy, and I feel that this could have been at least 100 pages shorter. Now this is an interesting concept for a story, but with the world being so complex off the bat, I was really confused the majority of the time. I felt that the characters where just really dry and bland. This just didn't work for me.

Think Firefly, only under the ocean and for teens. Which is to say, no one got eaten ON SCREEN. Also, I loved it. :D

I remember seeing a friend give this a positive review, so I looked for it at my local library. Unfortunately it was only available in audiobook format, which up until now, I haven't cared for. Now that I have started listening to some books, I looked this one up and gave it a try.

I was quite pleased with the story and the characters. Being underwater, so many (if not all) the similies were water based, and I found it a bit funny, but it added to the overall atmosphere of the book. While I did foresee a few things, I was left wondering how the story was going to resolve.

And a thumbs up for the audio-version, I really liked the reader.

This book was okay. I enjoyed it. A quick read. I think that the concept is really interesting - glaciers have melted, there's not much land left to live on, everyone is crowded into huge run-down housing, people have started homesteading under the sea as an alternative... but it didn't play out in a really evocative or thoughtful way. Still an interesting enough book with hints of medical experimentation, disability stuff (handled weirdly, though meant to be empowering) and the idea of good/evil, complicating the idea authority, don't-trust-the-cops stuff. I'd read the sequel.
