here is a book I was expecting to be a bit more of a romantic cheese fest, but actually it turned out to be a wonderfully creepy dystopian novel set in a world where “the society” has made all of your choices for you. Life is perfect. They choose your job, partner, leisure activities and how many hours you spend on them, what you eat and how much, what you wear, and when you die (80.. everyone dies at 80) it’s perfect. No one has any possessions, there are only 100 songs, 100 movies, etc… everything else had been destroyed. Anyway.I loved it. It wasn’t like the best written book ever …but god do I love dystopian fiction. And yes there is romance .. but it’s tame. I was surprised. In a good way.

Loved this dystopian book! As always I enjoy dystopian YA (cuz it's not gorey), maybe adult also, although I haven't found one yet that I enjoyed (I'm open to recs). Another example of what happens when the government has to much control.
I'm eager to read the rest of this series!

Growing up in the Divergent and Hunger Games generation, this has all the feels of similar dystopian societies. Being led to believe the life they were living was fair and good, only to find out they were being deceived and lied to as a form of control. While there was nothing truly special that stood out about this book, it was still an easy and enjoyable read for its genre.

Those are very generous 3 stars because it felt more like a 2.5...

I mean the book was very easy to get through but it wasn't exciting at all. Cassia felt as a character really dull and I couldn't care less about what is happening to her. It feels she jumps from one perspective to another without any real building up to this drastic change of view.

Spoiler Also how she fell in love with Ky seems just a bit ridiculous. It seems to be more out of curiosity and pity and maybe some rebellion than honest interest. Without him appearing on that screen she would have married Xander would have lived happily ever after without even thinking about Ky at all.

Also as I said before the book was just missing excitement. It lacked spirit. Even the big scene when Ky gets taken away and they pull some dramatic behaviour, it doesn't feel exciting or nerv wrecking for me as a reader because I didn't feel for any of the characters. They just lacked spirit.

I wouldn't mind reading the second book if I'm bored and I had it laying around but I'm definitely not spending any money on the sequel.
It lacked spirit.

Another teen romance. While the matching concept is a unique focus on the utopian/dystopian society (have you ever noticed how most utopia/dystopia books focus on one aspect of society that has been reformed? - Uglies: plastic surgery makes us equal; Harrison Bergeron: being the same makes us equal; Matched: assigned lives eliminates wrong choices and sometimes makes us equal), it was not well executed. The protagonist was dry and the love triangle felt like a replica of every other teen romance I've read recently. Which just goes to show that even unique ideas can feel stale when the characters are poorly written.

I wanted to like this so bad but it fell short for me. It was a slow start, and I found myself lucky to have finished this. This had so much potential but was too slow and boring for me.

However, I am definitely looking forward to the second book. Hopefully the next won't disappoint me:/

it’s a very average dystopian book. i liked some things about it but i also didn’t prefer other things. if you’re looking for a simple dystopian read, i think this one would be perfect. :)
