Hilarious monologues and fun banter - check
Found family trope - check
Snort-laugh loudly on buss - check

I read that this book was supposed to be funny but that doesn't really do it justice, it's fucking hilarious! It's dual point of view but we only get the view through Whit's eyes a couple of times, the rest is all Caleb and his world view and view of himself sure is entertaining.

Whit and Caleb's relationship develops rather unconventionally and some of Caleb's inner monologues are the funniest I have heard in my life. I am usually not a huge fan of Alexander Cendede as a narrator, I often feel like he is a bit over the top, but when being Caleb that actually works great.

While Caleb is an open book and no stranger to speaking before thinking, Whit isn't as open with his thoughts and feelings. He also seems haunted and it's soon obvious that his backstory isn't going to be pretty. Head's up, check content warnings regarding mental illness.

Usually I like my MCs a bit older than 21-22 years but the comedy factor made up for it. When it comes to how their relationship starts, I don't think I have ever read anything like it. Caleb is the absolute sweetest and I loved how Whit automatically was so important to him that he took everything else in stride. And with a huge amount of humour.

Being the sucker for found family that I am, I loved the dynamics within Caleb's family. Completely crazy but warm and welcoming in a loving and caring way. How they immediately almost adopted Whit was heartwarming. 😍

It's a fast book
So things happen way faster than is believable. If your looking for a fast paced spicy lgbtq friendly book you will probably enjoy it. It's just not what I thought it would be when it was suggested to me.

Love them. Excited to have met so many characters from the universe. Laughed out loud at times. So sweet at times. So deeply heartbreaking. Nice wrap up at the end.

Caleb and his unrepentant neediness spoke to me

I feel like I am living in some parallel universe where everyone read a different book than me.

Not for me.

Ok, I want to be fair and elaborate on why this wasn’t for me.
I was initially intrigued by the mysterious Whit and despite the odd and choppy writing style persevered well past the point of enjoyment.
I’ve read a lot of books that are complete and utter fiction but there always seems to have been at least some level of plausibility there, at least in the characters behaviour. This, for me just felt very rough and unfinished . A lot of the issues and main plot points felt poorly explored and handled and I just couldn’t connect, at all.

Sorry, just not for me.

The edging scene, OMG.

Also
Spoilerthe scene where they aren't together...the way Whit reacted freaking BROKE me. Caleb having his cousin check on Whit to make sure he hasn't harmed himself, and then coming to check himself when Whit wouldn't let Seb do it almost made me tear up.

This book was a lot more humorous than I expected. I guess the cover made it seem more serious? Probably doesn't help that Alexander Cendese was narrating most of this. I swear, that guy makes everything sound like a joke. I don't know if I love his work, or kinda hate it.

Safety:
