Just terrific stuff. Tony Stark as a 'bad guy' is great. The subtle nature of this, that he isn't really that evil, just really, really Tony Starkish, is great.

I am a little confused on the overall layout of the time stream in Marvel right now. I know this happened after Axis. But is this before Time Runs Out? Same time? After? Never? Brain hurt?

I haven't read Axis yet, but I still get a huge kick out of the idea that Tony Stark going from good to evil is subtle enough that it takes a while for the world to recognize and respond. He's always been arrogant and cocky, now he's just a little more selfish than usual.

“I’m the most intelligent, capable person on the planet. I’m not playing God. All this time... I’ve been playing human.”

Knowing my love for Tony Stark, a friend recommending this to me a few months ago and, after reading a more recent Iron Man comic, I was interested in seeing a different side of Tony. This certainly did not disappoint.

This comic doesn't so much have Tony as the protagonist as the villain; if anyone's the protagonist then it's Matt Murdock, AKA Daredevil. The comic follows Matt as he's trying to stop Tony as he seems to be getting further out of control, to the point where he's going full Big Brother with surveillance and claiming that it's for citizens' "safety".

I loved getting to see Tony more or less just be completely evil. There are the obvious ways, like the whole Big Brother situation, but also the more subtle ways, such as in the ways he treats people he sees as under him (which is everyone). I also loved getting to see Matt have to grapple with the fact that this villain isn't just a cut and dry, run of the mill bad guy; it's someone who's meant to be a good guy!

This comic also surprised me in how much it genuinely touched me with one scene, which is kind of a spoiler.
SpoilerTony gives Matt his vision back for about an hour, offering to make it permanent for the low, low price of all his morals. Matt refuses - obviously - but before his vision goes he rushes to meet up with Foggy so that he can physically see his best friend, even if it's only for a few seconds. My heart broke as the page shows Matt's eyesight deteriorating before going completely while Foggy is wondering what's wrong with him.

I also liked the art a lot. It's nothing too special, but it really worked for me. I especially liked the art for my girl She-Hulk because for some reason a lot of artists draw her in a really strange way. Thankfully, it was not the case here.

This entire comic was really interesting, both in terms of plot and characters, and I'm excited to finish it with the next volume to see how it all wraps up.

About as good as I expected, though it was a little better than the actual AXIS that led to it. Has me curious enough to read the second volume though I wouldn't go so far as to say this is really good. Despite being titled Iron Man, Daredevil gets a lot of page time and not a whole lot actually happens. Lots of Tony bragging and verbally scheming, which means lots of speech bubbles and little words and letters and your brain glazing over...

7/8/19: NTS will not be reading second volume

When I heard about Tony becoming a twisted, evil version of himself in connection with the AXIS event I didn't want to know anything about it. I didn't want to read about Tony being a bad person so I avoided Superior Iron Man as much as I could. Eventually my interest was piqued enough to read more about it and give it a go after all.

I was pleasantly surprised by the volume because even though Tony is not a good person there's still bits and pieces of the old Tony slipping through that made it so interesting to read. Even though you're not supposed to root for this Tony (and I didn't in terms of Tony succeeding in his plans) it was a nice change to see him not stricken with guilt all the time, to actually see him happy for once. It was also wonderful to see more of Matt Murdock (who was a great counterpoint to evil!Tony) and Jennifer Walters.

The story of Tony letting loose Extremis 3.0 on San Francisco and people becoming "perfect" versions of themselves thanks to the virus was compelling to read. Tony and Matt fighting against each other and
SpoilerTony forcing Extremis 3.0 on Matt, giving Matt his sight back (and then taking it away again after 24 hours) and later taking away his memories after he revealed to Tony what he knows about Tony's plans
shows how truly twisted Tony has become.

The art was nicely done and fit the "new" Tony.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series (while hoping that the old Tony will be back soon).

This is some damn good stuff that I would highly recommend if you like seeing heroes be bad.

I like Daredevil in this, love the use of teen abomination. And I wouldn’t say I like Tony in this but I like what’s being done with him.

4 stars.
