Animal Man was better than Swamp Thing, I liked having Beast Boy, Black Orchid, and Frankenstein around and traveling through Gorilla Grodd's turf. I think the idea of the arc was sound.

The art is just as amazing as always, but the writing drives me bonkers. Every time I return to this series, I hope that it will be different - that Ellen will be less of a bitch, that Buddy will be less selfish, that Maxine will be less stupid...but it isn't. This plus the fact that the plot has been the same for three straight books now: the rot advances, they infect one of Buddy's family, sad faces all around, repeat.

The one thing of note in this is the bizarro Arcane future where other DC characters are now zombified agents of the rot (my favourite is Wonder Woman with her giant mane of hair and sharp pointy teeth). The introduction of Frankenstein, Grodd and a new Green Lantern help to keep this from being a complete waste, but I'm done with Animal Man himself.

Animal Man continues to be a standout in the New 52 for me, and this arc brings together a ton of the stories that were ongoing from the first two volumes. The whole Rotworld thing was appropriately weird and disturbing, and that's what Animal Man has gone for up to this point with great success.

While the volume does have the sense of "enough, already" from time to time, the end result combined with the setup for the next stage of things is solid.

Evokes the best aspects of DC’s pre-Vertigo mature readers comics. A legitimate horror comic.

The better half of the rotworld crossover! Animal man is really starting to grow on me after this. He contrasts with your usual characters like superman in one way: when the world is falling all around him, he's not making a corny pitch about saving humanity; he doesn't care. He just wants to save his family. For someone with animal powers, that a very human response. Well done to Jeff on the writing. This is a crossover that works. Only reason I wouldn't give this a full 5 stars is the art. It fits with the weirdness that is an animal man story, but it's just too unique really for me to get into. Anyways 4.5/5

Animal Man used to be a comic that was totally unlike other superhero comics. Same for swamp thing. These rot world volumes are terrible. It's like you gave action figures to an 8 year old and let them bash things together.

Um. This volume was actually quite dull.

This volume suffers from tie-ins with other characters. I feel like the Animal Man story was working best when it focused on the main character alone. The first volume started off really strong but it has been going down hill since. Its still good but not up to the level of the first volume.

Well, that was a lot of super depressing stuff that immediately got retconned, as expected. Makes me not so invested in the last "twist" of this book. All in all, rather filler and predictable.
