Well this series came around for me by the end, it has a solid conclusion.
I did finally realize what the writing style feels like: it reminds me of novelization of TV shows or movies, where you're like this is a lot of telling, when it should be showing.
One of the few things I've ever read that I think would be better as a series or a movie, because the author spends so much time explaining the obvious or telling us what is happening instead of just letting it unfold through visuals or dialogue.
Also, just for me personally it was interesting to encounter some Marcion theology in there

“He’d never let himself miss anyone before, but with Jude it hadn’t been a choice. It had just been there, the fixed point around which the rest of his thoughts turned, the rocky shore that his heart crashed into again and again.”

“Maybe that is selfish, but it’s also human. And that means it’s worth holding on to.”

“Love is human.”
“And it is divine.”

I don’t think this series gets enough attention that it should. It’s not a mind blowing trilogy but it is a solid read.
Specifically recommend this for those that are newer to multiple POV and/or YA fantasy. You have some love and some hate for certain characters, the world and magic isn’t to hard to grasp, and it’s just a simple, fun, read.

This is what I would have wanted. [...] A house. A garden. Crickets to lull us to sleep, and birds to sing us awake. A home. And you.

It breaks my heart that this series has come to an end. It is one of my favourite trilogies ever and I will always hold it close to my heart. The series was written with so much heart and power, that I’m struggling with how to put it all into words. It’s a perfect finale, and I wish I had time to read it from the start again.

This series has always been strongest in its characters, and each of them shine here. Hassan coming to terms with responsibility is powerful. Ephyra learning what it will cost to save the world is wrenching. Jude and Anton fighting to save each other creates the most beautiful love story I’ve ever imagined. Beru wrestling with the god inside her created some truly memorable chapters. I love each character, and even side characters were given arcs and depth and emotional growth.

The story focuses on emotional connections and the journey. The best moments of this book were characters interacting with each other. But the plot itself was filled with action, tension, drama, twists, and sacrifices.

As always, the world building is intricate and detailed, the prose finely crafted. Katy Rose Pool has a stellar voice and writing style that turn words into magic.

It is a crime that this epic, emotional, and complex series is not on everyone’s shelf. It is sweeping, majestic, and filled with characters who will sink into your heart and stay there forever.

Honestly, this book is by no means a perfect book. It is, however, a perfect conclusion to this series.

I loved how everything was tied up and how our cast had to work together for the majority of the book. I especially loved Ephyra's development even though it was the complete opposite of what I hoped for (I would've loved for her to go full villain mode).
Again, as in every book, Anton was my favorite POV and I loved his and Jude's relationship.
can we talk about them being married?!

I still didn't like Hassan but I could appreciate what he did for the group and I respect him for his final decision.

I liked the twist and turns and that nothing came easy for them (except for their trek through the mountains which was supposed to be super dangerous but they just walked through haha).
