En general, me gustó y fue muy rápido de leer. Aún así, siento que el romance se desarrolló de manera muy superficial y acelerada, y los conflictos se resolvieron apresurada y convenientemente.

Bast Durand is finally back on the ice with with Chicago Rebels, soaking in his return by staring at his adoring fans when the Rowdy Rebel mascot comes out of nowhere and knocks him over and causes him to re-injure his wrist. Bast is given the news he will be out for a couple months to heal AND that the Rowdy Rebel mascot was worn by Pepper Calhoun.

Pepper is the daughter of the Rebels Coach and currently known as an NHL curse. Off a recent broken engagement to a hockey player, she is blamed for everything bad that happens. The media hates her and now Bast does as well. Although most of what the media is saying is just a misunderstanding, she is protecting her ex even though no one will protect her.

Bast decides to hide away from everyone and sulk, what he doesn’t plan is to invite Pepper on his sulking trip but she needs the space just as much. The two get snowed in together and everything comes out. They were great and nothing like a one bed situation to clear everything up! Bast becomes Pepper’s protector and number one supporter. Pepper becomes the sounding board that Bast needs in order to heal physically and mentally. I always enjoy visiting the Rebels and am so excited for Dex’s book next.

This book feels so incredibly misogynistic and hypocritical it drove me insane. I would’ve given it 1 star but I enjoyed the H and h enough to add an extra star for them.

Throughout the WHOLE book the heroine is called ‘bad news’ by everyone (her father, her brother, the H, his brother, journalists, hockey fans/media) all because she broke off an engagement with a hockey player who then went on a self-destructive spiral and ended up moving from the NHL to AHL.

She’s blamed for ALL of it, because why on earth would they hold a man accountable? Let’s just blame his actions on his most recent ex.

Everyone was saying that she ‘has a reputation with athletes’ because of ONE relationship

It drove me insane because not only was it misogynistic but it was wildly hypocritical. It’s insanely common in sports romances that when the main couple is going through tough times/break up, it negatively impacts the H’s game. And yet not a single one of the other hockey players (except Theo, he was great) used critical thinking skills and thought that maybe blaming a woman for a man’s failures is shitty especially since in their own relationships/books they also went through breakups where they fucked up their games, did they call their own wives ‘bad news’? Or is it only okay if the relationship ends in a happily ever after?

Pepper Calhoun was known for her clumsiness so when she is coerced into filling in for the Chicago Revels mascot there should be no surprise things go bad. But to take down one of the well-known players and ruin his comeback to hockey was disastrous. Not only her father, who is the coach, but the fans are mad at her.
Bastian Durand is returning to hockey after being gone for a year. The big night for his comeback doesn’t go as planned and he ends us injured. Discovering it was Pepper in the mascot suit that delayed his return, doesn’t upset Bastian. He has wanted Pepper forever and he is determined to protect her. Can he convince her to give him a chance?
Superstar is the seventh book in the Rookie Rebels series. I read it as a stand-alone but after finishing it, I really want to read the rest of the series. This was such a fun and entertaining book. I loved the storyline and really enjoyed the book. I look forward to reading the other books in the series next.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Did this book come across a little instalove-y? Yes. Did I want to throw my kindle straight at most of the men in this book? Absolutely. Would I read this book again? For sure.

Look, I’m not always a big fan of instant love stories but when it’s done right, I’m all in and Kate Meader did this right. Bast and Pepper started off with an instant attraction that quickly turned into an instant sort of animosity and a need to avoid one another but a complete inability to do so, especially from Bast’s end.

I really loved Bast and Pepper together but seriously, the men in this book made me so angry on Peppers behalf. Pepper has a history with another hockey player from a different team and the press were very hard in her about her perceived treatment of said player and blamed her for his subsequent fall from grace. Her own father, coach of the Rebels and her brother, also a hockey player, treat her like a pariah without knowing the whole story. Then when her dad forces her to play the Rebels mascot, she runs into (literally) Bast and he is re-injured and they all pile up on her for being so clumsy and for being bad luck for hockey players, despite Bast and her ex’s roles in what went down each time. I wanted her to speak her truth SO bad and while I appreciate that she had a lot of the Rebels wives on her side, I wish they’d done more to speak up for her sooner.

Moving on…

I really did enjoy this story and I love how Bast took up for Pepper in the end and how the Rebels organization, players and WAGS surrounded her with love and support as well. Overall this was a great addition to the Rookie Rebels series and I absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves a good enemies to lovers romance full of nosey, but supportive friends.

A little fast, but I still loved it. It took getting snowed in and only one bed tropes and made them believable. I loved that we got to see Bast’s imperfect side, the side that isn’t always upbeat and smiling, and the connection it gave him and Pepper. The book felt so short but it covered a lot of ground. I just want more, lol.
