it was an interesting premise, but somehow the book felt very dull and unmemorable.

This book found me just when I needed it.

I lack the words to articulate my gratitude for this book, so I'll share my favourite quote and leave it to be found by others who might be in pain and mourning the loss of loved ones and need to read these words as much as I did:

“You once told me that the Lord is everywhere, and I believed you. You said that souls don’t go to the top of the Fifth Mountain, and I also believed what you said. But you didn’t explain where they go.

This is the oath: you two will not weep for me, and each will take care of the other until the Lord allows each of you to follow his path. From this moment on, my soul will become one with all I have known on this earth: I am the valley, the mountains that surround it, the city, the people walking in its streets. I am its wounded and its beggars, its soldiers, its priests, its merchants, its nobles. I am the ground that they tread, and the well that slakes each one’s thirst.

Don’t weep for me, for there is no reason to be sad. From this moment on, I am Akbar, and the city is beautiful.”

I was excited to read this book but it disappointed me. The character feels flat and the writing didn't intrests me. It's a historical fiction but it more sounds like a boring history textbook. I guess this one's not for me.

The biblical story of Elijah and how he rebuilds a city far away from his homeland. Together with the Assyrian invasion, the love Elijah finds in a lonely widow and her adamant son who strives to rebuild the city for his mother, 'The Fifth Mountain' makes a decent read.

This book was more than just a fictional account of a period of Elijah's life that we know little about. Woven into this story is a Coehlo-typical positive and life-challenging message, this time one about what we do when faced with the unavoidable, when tragedy strikes and we must choose to move forward or forever be mired in the past.
I enjoyed his treatment of Elijah, of a prophet whose life we only know sparse events of, while staying true to the man we know him to be from the Bible. A good read overall, leaving me plenty to mull over in its wake.

Naja...
