After loving some of his short stories, I finally read one of Jeff's full novels, and this was honestly so much fun. I loved Jeff's sense of humor and I couldn't help but root for Jason and Rachel the entire time - and precious Ignatz, of course. I'm so glad I picked this up and I'm definitely looking forward to my next Jeff Strand read!

OK this turned into something completely different from what I expected. Not bad, just different.

The story is that of a cartoonist who is sent to a remote little town by his agent until some "bad publicity" has blown over. There, he makes dubious friends one night and goes to see the local "freak", a girl with a seriously disfigured face. The next day, he is sorry and wants to apologize to her and thus a whole lot of weird trouble starts.

Honestly, the story isn't bad but it is dragging. Maybe because while I was feeling for Rachel and liked the social topics covered here, I wanted it to be more spooky than it actually was. Or maybe because the twists weren't really twists (no actual surprises) and the supposedly comical things weren't all that funny. *shrugs*

A fascinating and weird tale of the world's funniest cartoonist (or so I think) who pulls the best prank ever, but needs to lay low after he does it.
To be honest bratty kids were throwing rocks at his dog and their parents were enabling the kids to do it. What's a man to do except dress up like a crazy man, cover himself in blood and chase after the kids with a chainsaw? Ok one of the kids tripped and broke his arm, but still worth it!

Anyways so now he is laying low in a cabin and one of his neighbors is a girl who lives with her dad. She barely goes out as her face has been melted off. The two hit it of and form a really supportive friendship. That being said, there are people around with plenty of darkness in their hearts and they are about to cause some major issues.

I could not stop reading this!

Blister is my second Jeff Strand book so far. The first was [b:The Haunted Forest Tour|34339545|The Haunted Forest Tour|Jeff Strand|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1487518436l/34339545._SY75_.jpg|55411347], which is a horror book about monsters and blood and guts. So, I expected something similar with this book. However, this is more like a romance than it is a horror. A super fucked up romance, but possibly now one of my favorite romances.

It gets 5 stars from me. I can't think of anything I didn't like about it. The pace and length of the book were perfect, the characters are interesting and memorable. It was sad, horrifying, funny, and touching. I loved it!

My god. It's rare that you can call a novel both heart warming and terrifying. Blister is both. Strand is so good at easing you into a novel and once he has you, he keeps you there. The story is full of characters that I genuinely cared for and Strand mixes comedy and pathos deftly. I can't recommend this novel enough.

Such a weird little book. In a good way.

This totally took me by surprise, and was a splendid mix of humor, thriller, and mystery. I can't call it horror (as it was labeled in some instances), but nevertheless an awesome read.

This was my first Strand novel, but it will certainly not be my last.

The author successfully created a story that’s hilarious, heartbreaking, and suspenseful. The most impressive feat to me was how invested I became regarding the fate of the two main characters. I was especially anxious regarding what may happen to Rachel, AKA Blister, as the story careened towards its conclusion. For me the action became a bit too crazy towards the end, which is the only thing that prevented me from giving this book five stars. Jeff Strand’s writing style and ability to tell a story are definitely a cut above most books I’ve read in the horror and suspense genres. I’ll definitely read more of his work on the future!

Flat, nondescript writing that fails to make this strange but overall dull tale anything but sluggish. The author sets forth a mystery he resolves almost immediately rather than create any real intrigue. A lot of "of course" in this book (as in "of course that character does that" and "of course that happened.") Things in this book spiral out of control seemingly because the author wants things to spiral out of control rather than for any good story reasons. The main character starts as mildly likeable and becomes steadily less so.
