A bit short but interesting enough, the plot twists are certainly mind-boggling in this one. I found the art a bit dull and too edgy though.

Love. Love. Love. On the cover the comment is "This is why comic books are awesome" and I can't agree more. Bummed that Francis Manapul isn't the artist, but I loved every piece of this. Possibly my favorite of the volumes so far.

This fifth volume of the N52 Flash seems to have been a placeholder as the book changed creative teams, which is why it feels very much like filler.

The annual, which sees Barry team up with his old mate Hal Jordan, was alright, but I’ve seen better storylines for both of these characters. Christos Gage shows up to write an issue where he spends way too much time explaining how Flash’s powers work, while also forgetting that Barry lost his crime lab job.

The centerpiece of the trade is the History Lessons three parter, a murder mystery featuring honest to goodness ghosts. This one was pretty good, and I would’ve liked to see Brian Buccellato explore this mystery and its connection to the Gem Cities’ origins in more detail. Deadman fans will be happy to see him here, too.

This was fun. Not meaty, but good. Bright and vibrant. Good guest appearances by Green Lantern and Deadman. A notch down from previous volumes.

Stories were great, however, I am not exactly sure why they changed the art in this volume. The art seemed like a downgrade, I wasn't as connected, and overall the art didn't flow as nice like the other previous volumes. Still worth reading though.

"It was great! The first third of the book consists of three one-offs. The first story give us the history of how the Flash and Green Lantern met and became friends. The second is all about how actions have consequences and as long as we keep trying to do what is right, it will all balance out for the best, even if we're not able to do everything, or in the Flash's case, save everyone. The meat of the book comes in a story about a serial killer ghost that Barry suspects of murdering his mother. There's great interpersonal drama between Barry and his foster father, who also happens to be the chief of police and Barry's boss. Who better to team up with the Flash to stop a serial killer ghost than Deadman, a ghost superhero. It was a fun book with some great unanswered questions about the murder of Nora Allen, Barry's mom." -Landon

I loved the History Lessons story. It was a great departure from typical Flash stories. You got to see Barry the cop here. You also got glimpses into his past and the start of a bigger mystery.

The Spitfire story was good and had some fun in it. The Annual was your typical run of the mill annual.

I really enjoy the New 52 version of Barry Allen. This book is fun and for the most part shows us the more human side of The Flash - who has always been one of the more grounded super-powered heroes of the Justice League. The Flash Our of Water story was specially enjoyable pushing the character to creatively using his powers when there is no obvious way to use speed to his favor. Overall it is a good book but I don't feel The Flash character suits supernatural stories (as is the main story arc presented in the book) and it doesn't advance much on the overall Flash mythos/world.
