The prose isn't near enjoyable enough to get past the racism nor the imperialist's wet dream of a plot. Passepartout and Fogg had moments where their personalities shined, but it was inescapable that much of the plot was thank god the British tamed all these savage lands, but, uh oh, they haven't tamed this part yet, so we will inevitably come across some uneducated freaks, but oh my goodness one of those freaks has white skin and speaks English, I think I'll marry that one.

Olen lapsena katsonut Matka maailman ympäri 80 päivässä animaatiosarjaa 90-luvulla. Se oli ihan mun suosikki!
Oli todella mielenkiintoista lukea tätä kirjaa ja saada samaan aikaan väläyksiä animaatiosarjasta. Tekstistä huomaa toki aikalaisuutensa, mutta annettakoon se anteeksi. Pidin tekstin kulusta ja tämä toimi äänikirjana todella hyvin (arvostan myös, että viitteet luettiin tekstin lomassa eikä esimerkiksi lopussa putkeen).
Yllätyin muutamasta asiasta. Siitä, kuinka lyhyt kirja oli ja kuinka "vähän" vastoinkäymisiä / tapahtumia oli. Sekä itse Phileas Foggin luonteesta. Sarjassa ei annettu näin matemaattista ja laskelmoivaa kuvaa, joka on itselle juurtunut takaraivoon. Näin myös sieluni silmin leijonan seikkailemassa pitkin maailmaa. :D
Olisin kaivannut ehkä vielä lisää, ihan vain sentimentaalisuudesta sarjaa kohtaan (luulin esimerkiksi, että matka maailman ympäri sukellusveneellä olisi jatkoa tähän, mutta niinhän se ei ollutkaan). Nopea, kevyt ja miellyttävä klassikko. Monesti klassikot ovat oman kokemuksen mukaan liian tuhtia ja raskasta luettavaa.

While in modern day you could do it in two, Around the World in 80 Days is a fantastic tale of adventure choice, and companionship. The book is definitely less scientific and more about the characters compared to other works from Verne, but that is probably a very good thing as it mades this story timeless. Definitely give it a read!

I really enjoyed this trip around the world. This might be Jules Verne’s
It was a quick read and was entertaining throughout. I was excited to see what happened at every turn and it was tied up nicely at the end as well.
One of my favorite classics I’ve read. At the moment I’d put it in the top 5 or 6. It had pretty much everything you’d want in a novel.
