So the Joker is evil, who‘d have thought....yawn.

I feel like Azzarello was getting close to making a profound point about the cyclical nature of violence, but he backed off every time he had the opportunity to make it. Some might interpret that as deep, like it’s too big to put into words, but let’s be clear: it’s vague writing that stems from an incomplete thought. Beautiful art, good (limited) use of Batman.

Real question, though? Why didn’t Harley Quinn day literally one word? She was there for so much of the comic, and didn’t get a single word in. She mostly just stood there half-naked, and screamed once. Disappointing.

I would round this up a bit to a 2.5 if Goodreads let me. The artwork wasn't my favorite, the style is harsher than I prefer. It wasn't bad though and the colors were great. The story left a bit to be desired. It didn't feel very complete and there certainly could have been more. I would have liked there to be more information on each of the characters. I liked seeing Harley in this but was greatly disappointed by the fact that she didn't even get any lines, she just hung around in the background. I liked seeing things from Johnny's point of view but we still only got to know some vague things about him as well. The story just didn't feel very developed, I don't think this is part of a series but it might have been better if it was.

The price of these graphic novels irks me. Nonetheless, a cool and at times viscerally beautiful GN exploring Joker's latest release from Arkham Asylum and his ensuing escapades. A really good length and certainly not rushed.

Originally the book was supposed to be told from the Joker’s perspective, but Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo decided to tell the story from the perspective of a common criminal. They believed that what made the Joker work was the mystery. Once you know what the Joker is thinking, you become empathetic and he seems less insane. This was a smart decision on their part and the book is phenomenal because of it.

This is one of the those "What's the point" books. It doesn't add anything new to the character, doesn't say anything fresh. The inclusion of the character Johnny doesn't make a difference and Azzarello's Joker just doesn't work. I enjoyed the Lex Luthor book Azzarello wrote but this was a waste of time.

MY ULTIMATE FAV.
I cannot get over this one.
