This book took me a bit to get into, because there are so many new characters abruptly introduced, but I ended up loving it. I thought Manon was fascinating, and I’m really excited to see where this goes. It took a while to adjust to the different story lines happening simultaneously- around 19 chapters, but I did end up loving it. I didn’t love Chaol, but that seems to be a pretty common opinion at this point. Aelin isn’t my favorite at this exact moment, either, but really I loved the growth. I loved that she was willing to dive in and deal with some feelings and embrace her Fae heritage.
Dorian is fascinating at this point, too, so I’m eager to get into the next book. I think the ensemble cast of this book kept it more interesting than had it been all Celeana/Aelin at this point.

Hmph. The further I get into the series, I somehow still consistently dislike the protagonist the most. She definitely grows in this one- we open with her complaining about having to eat stolen onion flat bread again- but over the course of learning how to control Fae powers and answer her aunt's plot quest, she recognizes grief long ignored, and guilt over the selfishness of her actions over the last decade. And frankly, she's nineteen (or turns it in this one), so growth and figuring out your emotions is to be expected. Still not a big fan of smarmy teenage assassins who are somehow the best at their job but then hold idiot balls for long lengths of time.

I'd call Heir of Fire more of an ensemble book, though, as we expand points of view beyond Celaena, Chaol, and Dorian- we see through the eyes of Aedion, her cousin trapped as an enemy's general; and Rowan, her mentor-turned-friend-that-she's-definitely-going-to-bond-with-at-some-point. My favorite plot was the witches learning to train dragons wyverns, though I recognize it had verrrrrrry little to do with the rest of the book and honestly could've been its own novella side story (though I'll be darned if this isn't Maas once again trying to do a twist on a traditional fairy tale, as the red cloak & fearsome grandmother indicate Little Red Riding Hood... I expect Manon to find her wolf at some point).

I still feel like I'm hate-reading this series- it's entertaining but unfulfilling, like popcorn. I don't like abandoning something I've started though, so I'll continue reading onward.

I feel like this is the book where the Throne of Glass series finally picks up. The characters that are introduced in this book are interesting and the story moves at a good pace. The enemies to lovers is "meh," but I have to admit that I'm not sure that that trope is for me.

WOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW. WOOOOOOOWWWWW. literally WOOOOOOWWWW. This book is definitely a 5 without doubt. I cant even bring myself to give it 4.9. It's sooo worth the time and focus. I have felt alot of things reading this. I would definitely recommend it to ANYONE who feels like not continuing the series.

I simply don’t know what happened. I heard rave reviews from a whole spectrum of people that this book was incredible…

I didn’t feel the romantic spark

I found myself a bit confused at times

Lots and lots of back story which seemed like good build up but then ultimately was kind of convenient

Tbh I feel like I randomly missed 50 pages that would have given the *wow* factor to the pieces coming together

OBVIOUSLY still a lil maas X fan but this was not my favorite and really just felt like a long setup for the next book in the series
