I loved this book! Interesting story with loveable characters. It took me a bit to warm up to the Duchess. This is an element I actually really liked as it feels like an accurate portrayal of a Duchess.

This is my third Stacy Reid book and I think it's my favourite one so far. Her stories are always addicting even if her characters aren't always lovable. In this case, I was surprised by how much I loved Rhys. To be honest, he's not a typical hero. I might even go so far as to label him an anti-hero? Kind of? He is so loyal and dedicated to the people that he loves. I absolutely love how much he loves and protects his mother and three sisters. His lovable side came out through his interactions with his sisters. That's what really made me start loving him. And when he fell in love with Georgiana? It was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Rhys fall in love. It made me love him even more. He didn't shy away from his feelings. He had a hard time ascertaining them, but once he realized his love for Georgiana, there wasn't anything that could keep him from her.

Georgiana was a decent heroine. I did get mad her at a certain point in the story. She came across as harsh and dumb. But she eventually came to her senses. I loved the final chapter where she just threw everything to the wind and publicly showed her love for Rhys. It made up for what she had done to him.

Also, this book was HOT. Rhys and Georgiana had wonderful chemistry and their relationship developed at the perfect pace. I'm very excited to read the next book! I'm also hoping characters like Lydia, Simon, Riordan O'Malley, and Andrew get their own HEA.

 Speculation:
I originally assumed there would be something between Lydia and Simon (Georgiana's brother), but the fact that she once threw dung at O'Malley just cracks me up lol. I hope she gets her own book! I'm thinking Andrew might find his HEA with that Felicity girl that Georgiana mentioned.

 Edit:
YESSS!! Lydia and Riordan will get their HEA in Book 3!! I can't wait!!

Rating: 4.5 stars

This was fine but pretty forgettable for me

Very solid, if not memorable! Bru book elements, angst where I wanted it, “I love you but” energy. No complaints!

I'm so sad that I didn't enjoy this one as much I did A Scoundrel of Her Own. Rhys is mentioned in this book and I was so intrigued by his story in it. The subplots were just underdeveloped and I wanted more build up of certain characters.
Trigger Warnings: kidnapping, attempted murder, domestic abuse mentioned, classism and carriage accident
lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The more books I read by Stacy Reid the more I love her work. The characters were well developed and the pace of the story moved fast enough to keep me engaged without feeling rushed. One of the things I liked best about this story was the main characters weren't stereotypical. Rhy's, while he was known as 'The Broker' and existed on the fringes of society he wasn't unnecessarily cruel. I also loved how devoted he was to making sure his mother and sisters were taken care of and happy. As for Georgiana, even though her first marriage was arranged to form a society alliance her husband wasn't cruel and her character was very mature for only being 26. With that being said it did take me a little while to warm up to her, she definitely came off as a snob for a lot of the book. Rhy's sisters were interesting side characters and I hope one day they get a series of their own.

I lowered my rating from 5 to 4 on my second reading.

Very sweet, very passionate characters.

The only qualms i have (1) there were too many repeated sentiments. As if the author was trying really hard to hammer in everything weve already been told. Yes you already said she had a pleasant first marriage, but she was unhappy. Yes, I already understand the chasm between Rhys' and Giorgianna's social statuses. Yes, i am aware that H loves his family and would do everything for them. But these were repeated more times than necessary Also, (2) there were a few instances when the dialogue was too much or too formal even in a 19th century setting.

Nevertheless, I still really liked it. It was written well. It was steamy, sweet, and because jeez who wouldn't swoon with those fucking lines?

3.75⭐️ their first meeting was intense I love that
