"My children have asked me several times why they aren't named Zornig like me. I tell them I didn't want to pass on the legacy of that name. I needed that name: I had to use that anger to liberate myself for my own personal inheritance. Born into light and love my children don't need that anger."

Thoughts~
A memoir of grit, resilience and inspiration!

Lisbeth Zornig Andersen works as an advocate for children's rights, something she is very qualified to do considering the childhood she had. Born in Denmark, into a dysfunctional and violent home, her and her brothers were in and out of foster care and institutions, lived in poverty, suffered sexually abuse, betrayal, and neglect.

Andersen paints a vivid picture of her hellish upbringing. She courageously published her harrowing story to educate people. Encourage others to see the signs of child suffering and speak up for thoes that cannot speak up for themselves, as she couldn't have as a child.

This is an emotional, heartbreaking, hard read but I appreciate Andersen's motives for putting her story out there. It would be strange to say I enjoyed this book in the traditional sense but it was a well written memoir and I'm glad I had the chance to read it.

Thank You to the publisher for sending me this book opinions are my own.

TW: physical and sexual abuse.
This book is a heartbreaking but empowering memoir of this lady's childhood about how her anger helped her to break the cycle and become the children's ombudsman in Denmark to help other children who experienced the same horrific childhood like she did. She experienced so much abuse both physical and sexual throughout her young life from all walks within her life and as well as being harrowing and such a hard read it is so inspiring to read how she changed her life around. I dropped it a star because it is translated from Swedish and it isn't the best translation so it can be hard to follow.

I can’t imagine what Lisbeth Andersen went through growing up. She has taken the time to write this story of her growing up in an extremely dysfunctional home in Denmark.

Lisbeth's story is so harrowing to read, but to see how she was able to begin challenging her past and using her experience to help other children is really inspiring. It's amazing how her outlook could change once she finally had the right support from the adults around her, but it's also a very raw example of the long-term effects these patterns of abuse can have. It's a heartbreaking story, but one where it's so important to learn the lessons from Lisbeth's experiences.

Thanks to netgalley for a copy of this book.

This book was hard to get through at times, because of everything the author has experienced through her short life. The book is very open and descriptive about her story, which in some ways also makes her story more powerful in my opinion. It's amazing how children who go through so much end up surviving and living a "normal" life.
