Honestly this book was such a cool insight into the potential events after the film. Hades and Persephone engaged?! Phil and Meg actually getting along and to top it off, having Aeugus not actually cheating on Meg but rather another trick from Hades. I loved this book and having Meg as the true heroine she is was cool. I would have loved a scene between Meg and her mum reuniting but overall I loved the book

RATING: 3.5 STARS!!!

Synopsis:
In this Twisted Tale we follow Meg after the events of Disneys ‘Hercules’. When Hercules tells Zeus he’d like to stay on earth, Zeus refuses saying he’s not going to risk losing his son again. Meg, a mortal, can’t be with a God so Hera offers her a once in a lifetime opportunity: Obtain Athena’s lost flute and then head to the underworld and retrieve her Ex’s wife’s soul within 2 weeks time. Can Meg get past her feelings of betrayal and help the woman she’s always resented? And if Hades finds out, will he ever let her leave his realm?

Review:
I loved this book so much! Hercules is my favorite Disney movie of all time and I started reading this RIGHT after finishing the movie for the bazillionth time and it HIT SO WELL!
The characters? Their personalities were PERFECTLY ON POINT with the cartoon.
The storyline? Very much played out like a Disney Movie (*Hint Hint* Disney! MAKE THIS INTO A MOVIE!!).
Plus, we got to know some of the existing Gods from the movie even better and we met knew ones! And not just new ones BUT… *DRUMROLL PLEASE*…
WE MEET PERSEPHONE!!! AH!!! WE LITERALLY GET TO SEE DISNEYS HADES FALLING IN LOVE AND IT WAS JUST SO… CHEFS KISS!!!

So why only 4 stars???
There’s only one little ick I had about this book and it was the fact that Persephone was described completely different and if you guys have seen the movie (and know the mythology), you will know that Persephone WAS in the movie! She was that blonde Goddess with pink skin and a Pink flower on her head that shows up next to her mother Demeter so when the author described her as a girl with Black hair and tan skin I was kind of taken aback like, “girl, Jenn honey… did we watch the same movie?”

Very quick & easy read. Loved the story and Meg’s character development - she will always slay. Looking into learning more about Hades & Persephone’s story.

Meg fell for man after trying to betray him then he became a god. What’s a girl to do with that except become a god herself. It’s not that simple but it is so fun.
Meg is strong, honest, independent and nearly fearless in reaching her goals. I loved her strength and her ability to question herself.
This is not the classic hero movie where the guy sweeps in to save the girl. This girl saves the boy, and can stand on her on in a fight. When presented with a quest that would end with her being a god, she grabs it. She doesn’t do it because she can’t live without the wonder boy but because she can do it for herself. Woot Woot ! Girl power activated !
Seriously fun read, excellent characters.

~POTENTIAL SPOILERS~

I think it's no secret by now that I love Disney and their output and will never stop. I love them so much that I decided to finally make a shelf just for all the Disney stuff I read specifically. As a result, I've been aware of and curious about this series ever since it was first announced, but was turned off by the fact so many of them are extremely heavy on the alternate universe aspect, way too much so for my personal tastes. Still, I'm curious about some, and this was one of them, especially as I'm a huge fan of the movie Hercules.

I enjoyed this! The plot was fast-paced, something I enjoy, especially paired with a digestible writing style, with the right amount of tense and heartwarming moments. I loved Meg as a heroine here, she's still her usual snarky self, and I wanted to see her succeed. I liked the lessons she learned about not just love but vulnerability, and the additions made to her backstory, such as her time with her ex, as well as her parents, explaining her fear of commitment.

I also liked how Meg had to put her past aside and ultimately learn to be the bigger woman. While it was revealed to be a misunderstanding, since I've grown older I've gotten very tired of stories where girls or women act like catty idiots that are clearly just insecure in their femininity, so it was really nice to see Meg get over that and learn to care for the 'other woman'.

Going back to the writing style, I enjoyed how it had the same style and quick wit as the movie, making it so easy for me to see it playing out in my mind. Even the way the people and other characters are described, such as the other gods, fit in so well with the look of the original. There were nods and references to the Greek myths as well, but what I ended up loving the most was the reveal that Meg's last name is Egan, a reference to her voice actress, Susan Egan. That's how you do a Disney Easter Egg!

Honestly my only qualms are nitpicks, I wish the book said what Hercules became god of, and Meg's position felt kinda odd to me. I would've made her rule over mischief, or something similar.

Overall, this was a fun and action-paced romp that not only stayed true to the spirit of the original but greatly expanded on it. While I'm still not going to read the vast majority of this series due to the extreme AU nature, I am still happy I picked this one up and hope if I do end up checking out any others, they'll end up being just as good as this one.
