The kiddos loved the real facts about the sea creatures at the end of the book!

This was cute and I liked that the hermit crab basically utilized all his friends to make his home more comfortable; however, it wasn't my favorite by Eric Carle.

Eric Carle's illustrations are great - he's one of my favourite illustrators. The story here is cute too, with Hermit Crab needing a bigger shell, and then adorning it month by month (so, yes, educational with its teaching the months of the year) with different items.

A hermit crab finds his shell is getting to small. Moving is scary, but he finds a bigger shell and then some marine friends to spruce it up. When he outgrows his shell again he is a bit sad to leave his friends behind, but is also excited about his new possibilities.

Little Man is super into hermit crabs right now so this was the perfect time to read this. He was still talking about all the things the hermit crab added to his shell the next morning!

Eeeeeh....not one of Carle's better works. It does manage to educate the reader about not only hermit crabs, but a few other ocean creatures, which is nice. But there's nothing really....catching about this book. I could see myself forgetting this very soon, so it's good I managed a review only a couple days after reading.

I wish there was more I could say to describe this book. I have nothing really to say for or against it. It's not like Carle was "calling it in" or anything. It's just...there.

Certainly worth a try if you have a Carle-obsessed kid, but don't feel the need to gift this or get it for your own home. Pretty much every public library has a wide selection of Carle books on the shelves, so try there.

This book shows that sharing is caring and making friends is the best. You can take anything ordinary and make it extraordinary.
