The art is pretty great, I especially love the dense city backgrounds. The premise isn't too deep, but an interesting world building mashup between exorcists and fire fighters.

The biggest detractor here is the fan service. Actually, we say fan service in this genre a lot, but let's be more specific. The problem is the sexual exploitation of women. A random frame of female characters showering. The underage male protagonist coping multiple feels by accident. A female side character with some sort of plot device that involves getting men to grope her against their will. For what exactly? For comedy? For gross horny fans? It just comes out of nowhere and I'm exhausted by how normalized obnoxious sexual exploitation non sequitors are in manga and anime.

I gave this a try after putting down the anime after a couple episodes. Turns out I stopped watching right where volume 1 ends, so reading this likely won't get me to give the show another chance and very likely won't get me to read more if it's just a generic shonen studded with random slimy fan service.

If I could give this six (or 10) stars, I would! The level of detail in the scenes is phenomenal! You can really tell how much time and care went into all of it.

Fire Force is another one of my favorite anime but I initially checked it out because of the trailer and the fact that the creator, Atsushi Ohkubo, created Soul Eater too. I haven’t read that anime but I watched a few episodes and loved the art style and quirkiness of it! This story is so interesting, including the use of religion and how it’s based on fire fighters. Obsessed with the use of pyromancy too!

As for favorite characters, this series is one of the only ones where I’m really drawn to the MC. Most of the time I fall in love with the loyal best friend or another character in the main side characters group. Shinra has a good heart buried under an unfortunate quirk and an amazing power. There’s a past tragedy - as most good MCs have -  but he wants to do something good with his life by helping others.

I also have a major crush on Maki because she’s strong and a badass, but also feminine and pretty! Obi’s up there on my list too since he’s an all-around nice guy with no powers and a strong moral compass. And, due to things that happen later in the series, Hinawa is an absolute badass! (I can’t wait to get to a certain scene with him against the main antagonist(s)!)

I’m absolutely blown away by the complexity of the art style! The first volume ended perfectly and I’m already planning when to get Vol. 2!

The anime completely took over my life so I’m glad I have the first volume of the manga! Also I love soul eater like a ridiculous amount so having another series by the artist makes me extra happy

I was immediately put off by an upskirting joke on the first page, and then later we're introduced to a girl whose superpowers make men grope her (imagine making victim blaming that LITERAL!?). I know this book is for teen boys but the person writing it is a grown-ass man, and the way he views and depicts teenage girls/women is grim and grubby. There are ways you can write attractive, fun female characters in manga without assaulting them for laughs. It's not that sexuality can't be written about in teen stories, but the tone of this manga condones abusive behaviour/passes it off as a big joke. I make some concessions for older titles like Dragon Ball that haven't aged well, but this was published in 2016. No excuse.

Could be a fun read alike for AOT & Demon Slayer.

You are either into it or not but I also feel like this is something I'd rather watch.
