Muir is about to age out of the foster care system but she gets one last placement that might just change her life. I really loved this book. I found all of the characters likable (Muir, Kira, Sean, Francine), and the writing beautiful. I thought the topic of the foster system was really interesting and the way it was handled was very thought provoking. Highly recommend.

Whoa. Really, whoa. 5 ⭐
What a beautiful, insightful, edifying view into the foster system through some incredible characters. I really, really appreciated the perspectives from the main characters and how they talked through hard things. They taught me new things. And I appreciated how they addressed misconceptions, unhelpful stereotypes along with the realities of the system. Gosh, I just loved Francine. I want to be like her in so many ways.
The author's note at the end was the cherry on top: this book is fiction but woven from so many real stories. Every journey is different and I have so much more to learn.
(Book prompt: Read a book from "Iowa Reads")

This book was recommended to me by a dear friend who was loving the audiobook. I found it on Hoopla and absolutely fell in love. When I finish an audiobook and immediately buy a physical copy, you know it was good! This is the kind of story that sticks with you. The kind you want to revisit time and again.

A look inside the head of one person aging out of foster care, based on interviews and experiences of kids previously or still in the system.
