i absolutely FLEW through this book - i'm not even sure how or why as the writing style is quite rambly and stream of consciousness style.
safe to say, i did very much enjoy everyone in this room will someday be dead. it's definitely one you have to be in the right headspace to read, especially if you have anxiety or depression. gilda for me was a very easy character to root for because i really wanted her to get better. and whilst i luckily can't relate to her feelings of existential dread, it was quite fascinating to see the world through her eyes.
a lot of the blurbs on my edition of the book talk about how 'laugh out loud' funny it is and whilst there were some amusing parts, i barely even exhaled through my nose let alone laughed out loud. but i can understand why come people think it's humorous.

This book needs a trigger warning, it made me feel very anxious when I was relating to the character, so much so that I chose to speed read and pushed my way through to the end to find closure. It’s intense.
Edit: I’ve read comments where this story made readers feel warm because they could relate to it. I don’t know, try reading it for yourself and if it’s too overwhelming, I’d suggest skipping to the last few chapters.

This book was good but my expectations for it to holistically tackle existencial concerns were too high so it disappointed me unfortunately! Loved the main character and really felt for her inner pain and confusion.
Cried. Why do we cry at all, as Gilda would think.

This book hit me hard. The way it conveys anxious spiraling and existential angst so closely mirrors the way my own brain works, and it sucked me down with it. Needless to say, this book was not great for my mental health. But at the same time, it was so validating. This is all on top of having an engrossing plot, charming characters, and a wry sense of humor. I loved it. I wish the final part was a bit longer, but I don’t mind the way it wrapped up. I just wish I could stay in Gilda’s brain for a bit longer. Highly recommend.
This book resonated with my type of depression and anxiety and I really related with the main character. It’s depressing, heartbreaking, but also uplifting in a weird way. Loved the ending, though I wish it would have been more apparent that she had gotten mental health treatment. In my experience, you don’t just wake up one day and suddenly everything is normal again.
