Great book! It moved really quickly and had me hooked right away. I found the middle slower, but it picked up again and didn’t stop until the last page! I can see why this is rated so highly. Claire and Eva were very interesting, very different characters. Both were very strong, determined women, I admired how the author really included such empowerment in the story. In a sense I wanted to feel like I knew them better, but at the end I realized I knew all I needed to know about them to make the story work. This story felt so short to me, it happened so fast and even though it took place in both the past and present I still wanted a bit more backstory! Eva was definitely harder to read, love that we share a name! I liked her but was frustrated with her, the balance of that was an interesting experience and I often find it hard to read a character that I don’t vibe with, but it worked. I could not figure out the end, there were so many twists and turns that I appreciated. They made sense and they made the story even more captivating! This was an edge of my seat read! Highly recommend this one.

This was a good read with a very steady rising action that doesn’t all come together until the very end. A good mix of action and thrill with emotional and relational stories. Jumps back and forth between the perspective of the 2 main characters which made it feel more choppy to me at times. I did not predict most of the twists at the end which was good.

It was decently entertaining but felt a bit slow and repetitive at times. It had a couple of cool twists but at least one of them felt meaningless a couple of pages later so what was the point? But yeah, an okay book.

4 ⭐️ this was such a suspenseful and powerful story!! i knew immediately from the dedication that the author was coming from the right place with it (and the “conversation with the author” section elaborated on that even more), and julie clack did not disappoint.

the premise of two women in difficult situations who are desperate to disappear from their lives without a trace meeting at the airport and exchanging their clothes and tickets and whether they were going to get away with it was very intriguing to me.

i was invested in claire’s story and rooting for her right away, and i really appreciate that the author didn’t turn the abusive marriage plot line into torture porn (happens a Lot unfortunately) and we focused on a smart and strong woman escaping a horrible situation, starting a new life, and healing. in my opinion, all of the sensitive topics were handled very carefully.

eva is a little more complicated and flawed, but you can’t help but root for and sympathize with her too. her story was so heartbreaking. really really glad that female friendship was a big thing for eva’s story. the epilogue hit me So hard too.

the plot lines are intertwined so masterfully and the writing is so great that it’s suspenseful and unputdownable the whole time. i was really surprised by the plot twists And my heart was actually pounding when i was reading some quietly ominous scenes.

This suspense book was well written, well developed characters, and it causes you to feel empathetic towards Claire and Eva, even if you haven’t gone through their circumstances. Important topics were touched and the reality some people live through. I wish Eva had a better ending, she deserved it. Life is not always a happy ending though. Great book overall.

My mother in law read it, loved it, and mailed it to me. One day I came home on my lunch break and picked it up "just to read the first few sentences." Fast forward 45 minutes and multiple chapters later--I was HOOKED. It was the perfect fast paced thriller I needed at the time.

EASY 5 star read.
