I inhaled this book! Usually when someone says a book is like the Six of Crows duology (a super YA fav of mine) I’m like yeah right, lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice. But this one was exactly that! This book is Six Of Crows for the middle grade crowd (I’d say upper middle grade for kids who find other MG novels too childish but are not ready for the darkness of the YA genre). Wholesome yet complex with finely tuned world building and character development not to mention twists and turns and a wee bit of Victorian steampunk this book was so good. I immediately ordered the sequel. Get this one for your kiddo, it’ll keep them quite and enthralled for a bit.

3.5 This was just really fun, the characters were likable and distinct and all of the motivations and plot points made sense. I liked the folk tales of the world and how they were so important to the storyline.

"Children of the Fox" by Kevin Sands is an enchanting journey into a world where magic, mystery, and misfit kids converge in a daring heist that is comparable to the excitement of Harry Potter. The author weaves a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat as a group of unlikely heroes, each with their unique talents, embarks on the impossible. From the con artist Callan to the acrobatic Meriel, the characters are vibrant and lovable, making it easy to root for their success.

Sands brilliantly blends mythical lore with riddles and dangers, creating a narrative that captures the imagination. The unfolding of secrets and the camaraderie among the kids add layers of depth to the story, keeping readers engaged at every turn.

Magic, with its unpredictable twists, adds an extra layer of joy to the narrative. The story beautifully explores themes of trust, friendship, and the courage to ask for help when needed. Callan's journey of overcoming obstacles resonates with readers, making the story not just a thrilling adventure but also a heartwarming tale of personal growth.

As the tale unfolds, the suspense builds, and the ending delivers a perfect blend of satisfaction and anticipation, leaving readers eager for the next installment. "Children of the Fox" is a must-read for anyone seeking a magical, adventurous escape into a world where the impossible becomes possible. Get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions and a craving for more of Kevin Sands' captivating storytelling.

This book went in directions I did not expect. It had a broader scope than I had predicted when I picked it up. Not often do I come home excited to continue reading a story, but for this book I did. Loved the depth of the imagination, struggle and adventure. I did not expect to enjoy the main character as much as I did - a nice surprise.

Read this partially on audio, partially in physical form for the middle grade book group at the store. One of the kids warned me there was a cliffhanger and they weren’t kidding! A fun heist and an interesting magic system! I’m curious to read the rest of the trilogy.

This book was received as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I genuinely think this might be one of my new favourites, I love heist novels in general and this goes SO hard for being a middle grade novel. This is my new crew, and I'm looking at the other two ASAP because I ended up flapping my hands at how amazing that ending was. Callan and Lachlan are my absolute faves, and the way that Sands weaves characterization with world building and an interesting magic system has my heart in a choke hold. I need book two yesterday!

Looking back it was definitely inspired by Six of Crows. Cool middle grade novel and nice quest.

I loved this book so much it was as great or better than the author's first series I like how he keeps the historical like setting but adds all kinds of interesting things to it. I loved the great cast of characters each unique in their own ways but I liked Cal most of all a smart yet very shrewd character he was interesting to read about he makes for a great character to read about he meshed well with the rest of the cast. The other characters of the group are as I said unique and add something interesting to the group. The plot was really interesting it starts with Callan and his want to get rid of scars so he can have a better life it moves onto telling of a heist that would get him a lot of money so he goes there meets a bunch of other kids finds out what they need to get after that the group looks for how to get it other things happen and many things go wrong but after awhile things go not so bad looking forward to reading more soon.
