kate being a badass and showing these fuckers that she isn't weak is always a satisfying thing.
On the one hand, the story and action were utterly riveting á lá unmistakeable Ilona Andrews style, even though I had some bones to pick with the book.
The relationship issues bw Kate and Curran and their having to fight it out all the time was just too much for me. I understand that they have just become officially mated and obviously there is loads of room for improvement, but just having to read about all that stuff was so tiring and occasionally so painfully MEH.
Otherwise it was a RODEO read, full of intensity and I was hanging on to the book for dear life together with the characters.

Not as good as the others in the series but still amazing enough for me to read the entire thing in one day.
I adore these characters more than anything I can see them so clearly in my head and they're so perfect and I am fangirling.

Curran is getting a little annoyingly possessive. I get why, but I don't like it.
Other than that this story was another good one, really want to see what this means for Julie, and whether Roland is just around the corner...

This book, I have no words. Each one is better than the last. Now I have to wait for my bookmail to continue...
I've enjoyed every installment of the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, but Magic Slays may be my favorite. The last two books seemed to be getting darker, and I feared the authors had decided to take the series down an angsty, depressing path. One where good never quite prevails and no character is safe. While Magic Slays is still dark and violent, Andrews is more liberal with the dry humor and truly funny quips we saw earlier in the series. The story in Magic Slays is exciting and extremely well executed. The characters continue to struggle with their troubled pasts and with their present relationships. And while there is forshadowing of difficult times ahead, I ended the book with a feeling of satisfaction. I can't wait for the next installment.
